Travelling with babies and young children can feel overwhelming, but over the years I've learnt a few things that make it much easier.

One of the biggest surprises is that travelling is often easiest before babies start crawling and walking. Once they become mobile, they're naturally keen to explore, which can make waiting at airports and sitting on planes more challenging!

A few other things that help include applying for passports well in advance, checking in a bag when possible, taking advantage of buggy allowances, and bringing a baby carrier for getting through security and around the airport hands-free.

If you're travelling with a baby, don't worry too much about bringing baby food, milk or water through security, and make sure you pack plenty of nappies, wipes, spare clothes and a few distractions for the journey.

Many parents also find that breastfeeding, bottle-feeding or offering a pacifier during take-off and landing can help babies cope with pressure changes.

Most importantly, remember that children are often far more adaptable than we expect. A little preparation, flexibility and realistic expectations can go a long way.

Bottle refusal can feel exhausting, especially when you’ve tried everything already. Often babies simply need time to learn that feeding from a teat is different from breastfeeding — different tongue movements, different flow, different comfort cues. Gentle, playful, low-pressure practice usually works better than trying when everyone is stressed. Responsive, paced bottle feeding can also help babies feel more comfortable and in control during feeds.

I've been experimenting with AI for this Mother's Day's post and instructed it to create it in Kindestmilk style.
Do you think it did a good job?
Not quite sure....

As an IBCLC lactation consultant, I am not only working in private practice, but also as a member of the ELACTA editorial team. ELACTA is the European Lactation Consultants Alliance. The association unites IBCLCs in Europe and campaigns for IBCLC professional recognition in Europe. ELACTA also offers a professional journal to its members.
I am really delighted to be part of the editorial team of the journal. Last weekend, we met near Nuremberg, Germany, to plan new projects and journal issues. It was also a great opportunity to catch up with friends & family.
If you want to find out more about ELACTA membership, go to elacta.eu.

The study by Tikotzky et al. examined infant sleep development from 3-6 months of life.
In reality, most parents will find what works for their individual family setup. Many breastfeeding parents find that keeping baby close in a safe sleep setup is less sleep-disruptive and babies may not have a dirty nappy at night after the first few weeks.
However, it is helpful to see the research so parents can make informed choices and figure out what works for them.

More about this in Prof. Helen Ball's book "How Babies Sleep"

Happy Nollaig na mBan!
Who were your 3 wise women when you had a baby?
For me it was my midwives who delivered my babies, my mum who minded us postpartum, and my friend who dropped over food.
