We were delighted to hold an Irish Heart Foundation "Hands for Life" course recently for the Empowering Communities Programme Bawnlea in Jobstown Community Centre.

Our aim is to train local Tallaght Communities in Cardiac Arrest recognition and treatment to ensure a strong chain of survival should a Cardiac Arrest occur.

Thanks to all participants, including Dawn who organised the event.

To recognise the Irish Heart Foundation Restart a Heart Day, Tallaght CFR and Microsoft Europe held a Learn CPR day in conjunction with the Microsoft Give Campaign.

Over the course of the day, volunteers from Tallaght CFR, CFR Ireland, Four Districts Community First Responders & Avoca/Conary Community First Responders trained over 200 staff members in how to perform chest compressions and use an Automated External Defibrillator.

The day wouldn't have been possible without the input from Microsofts Owen Dignam and help from the National Ambulance Service (NAS) and CFR volunteers.

Thank you to all involved in the event!

This week National Ambulance Service (NAS) released the annual Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Register (OHCAR) for 2024

Some key figures from the report:

• 2885 recorded cardiac arrests in Ireland in 2024

• 84% had CPR attempted by a bystander. This could be someone with no training or someone who has advanced level training

• 28% had Community First Responder (CFR) involvement

• 232 patients survived

Figures from our own 2024 report:

We responded to 275 emergency calls, 162 were cardiac arrest cases

Learning CPR is very simple and could save a life

Please continue to support the voluntary work we do by visiting our website, www.tallaghtcfr.ie, to see how you can help

Remember a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time
