π World Mental Health Day π
Sometimes looking after our mental health doesn't look like doing more, achieving more, or finding the strength to keep pushing forward.
Sometimes, it looks like admitting that we're tired. That things feel heavy. That we're struggling to recognise ourselves in a season of life that feels unfamiliar.
Sometimes it means giving ourselves permission to simply be, without the pressure to fix everything, figure everything out, or have all the answers.
We can spend so much of our lives trying to be everything for everyone else that we forget to check in with the person who needs our care, understanding and compassion just as much as anybody else. Ourselves!!
Mental health isn't always about becoming a better version of who we are. Sometimes, it's about learning to meet ourselves where we are, with kindness rather than criticism.
It's remembering that we are human. That our experiences matter. That struggling doesn't make us weak, and that we don't have to wait until we're at breaking point to deserve support.
And perhaps, most importantly, we don't have to navigate everything alone. π
At Journey of the Self Counselling and Psychotherapy, I believe that creating space to understand ourselves, explore our experiences and make sense of our feelings can be the beginning of something meaningful.
Whatever today looks like for you, I hope you can offer yourself a little of the compassion you so freely give to others.
You matter, even on the days when simply being you feels like enough of a task. π
