I spend a lot of time in bituach leumi.

Online, working through clients' casefiles, reading about changes, and

sometimes yes, going in person with the client to a committee meeting for approval. It's always a stressful for event for the client because there's a feeling of being checked out. A feeling of 'will they doubt my story?' 'Will they think I'm making things up or just exaggerating my pain and inability to function?'

So I always tell them this: there are two tracks to care. One is the bureaucratic paperwork version, where you need to present your case in a way that the system can process you, where you need to give over specific information from certain providers. That is so you can receive your benefits, access your rights.

The other path is the one of treatment. That is a totally different path, with different doctors, often, a different approach, with the goal to heal you or make your life better. Its a parallel track to the bureaucratic one, and they are separate from each other.

So don't go into the committee meeting thinking that you have to 'prove' your illness, 'prove' your worth. You know your limitations, you know how much this illness has taken from you. You know that you are just trying to access the bureaucratic path so that you can regain some of your life, and move forward on the treatment path.

So don't sweat it. Present your information, say your truth, make your best efforts, and then let go, and focus on getting better.
