Romina Stiglitz, Living with Chronic Illness I help people with chronic illnesses (but not only) build meaningful, sustainable careers that work with their health, not against it.

I grew up with pain. I learned to keep going anyway, and slowly built a whole identity around it. "Nothing will stop me." Until something stopped me.
This carousel is part of my story. Not all of it — but the part that's hardest to talk about: what happens to you when who you thought you were suddenly doesn't work anymore. I wrote about it on the blog too : https://romi.st/blog/work-with-whats-in-the-fridge-my-story .

I'd love to hear your stories in the comments.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁.

The goal with chronic illness isn’t to “delete” it. For most of us, that’s not the reality.
The real goal is a power shift: you manage the illness. It stops managing you.

But getting there takes time. A lot of falling down and getting back up.
And the only way to get back up is through self-compassion.

When you get sick, the “patient” label tries to swallow your whole identity.
Your plans, your energy, and your self-worth start revolving around symptoms.
You start to feel like a slob instead of a person. You start feeling like a walking diagnosis.

The main goal is to stop asking what healthy people are doing.
Ask instead: What is the next step for the body I have today?

Sometimes the answer is: let the body heal. If you’re in a flare, let it run its course. One week? One month? Fine. Fighting reality just wastes more energy.

But keep your hand on the wheel. Decide now: when the system stabilizes, I will activate. Even if it's imperfect. Even if it’s just one small move.

𝗙𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗺𝘆𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗶𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹. For those who don't have chronic pain, this is a surprising fact!

The thing is, it’s always there, on level 3, 4, 5.
The kind that allows you to keep functioning, but in practice, it occupies a lot of your attention.
It feels like a computer running heavy software in the background. The fan is working hard, you can see everything responding a bit slower. The system manages to multitask, but at a high cost.

Some (many) days, that’s how I feel. And that’s okay. I need to understand that on my PC, the fan will work overtime, and performance will be low.
I don’t need performance to be 100%. 60, 50 or whatever I have at the moment is enough.

One small movement, one simple decision, one "tab" you closed to lighten the load on the system. That’s the difference between being managed by the pain and managing it.

I treat my energy like an accounting system. Some people call it "Spoons," but for me, it’s a functional budget.

You get invited somewhere and think: "Going to lunch takes 2 spoons." Wrong. You forgot the life tax—getting dressed, the drive, the noise of the room.

I wrote some of my thoughts about how to audit your energy on the blog - read here: https://life-rebuilt-studio.lovable.app/blog/cfo-of-life-the-spoon-theory
