There's a question every fertility patient asks at some point:
"Is there anything I can do on my end?"

The answer is: yes, but probably less than you think.

Lifestyle isn't a cure for infertility. But there are 5 factors that genuinely move the needle - and they're worth knowing before treatment begins.

1. Weight. A healthy weight range supports better hormonal balance. Both ends - underweight and overweight - can affect cycles.
2. Sleep. 7-9 hours a night. Most hormone regulation happens while you rest.
3. Smoking. Quitting before treatment reduces fertility impact - for both partners.
4. Alcohol. Reduce or pause during the active treatment cycle. Not forever.
5. Stress. Stress alone doesn't cause infertility. But during treatment, what you can manage - manage. What you can't - we help with.

You don't need to overhaul your life. Small, consistent changes matter more than dramatic ones. And whatever you can't control, that's why a specialist team exists.

One of the most common worries patients bring into our consultation room: "Are frozen embryos lesser than fresh ones?"

The answer is no.

A frozen embryo is the same embryo - simply preserved through a process called vitrification, which freezes it so rapidly that cellular damage is minimised. When the time is right for transfer, it is carefully thawed and placed back.

In current reproductive medicine, frozen embryo transfer (FET) outcomes are often comparable to fresh transfer, and in some patient profiles - including women with PCOS or those at risk of ovarian hyperstimulation - FET is the clinically preferred choice.

The choice between fresh and frozen transfer is not about embryo quality. It is about what is medically right for your specific case, decided together with your specialist.

It tells you about your hormones, your ovulation, your stress levels, your thyroid, your weight - and most importantly, your fertility health. We're taught to track our cycle to know when our period is coming. But the cycle carries far more information than that.

A cycle shorter than 21 days, or longer than 35, can be an early hormonal signal. Sudden changes in flow can indicate thyroid imbalances or PCOS. Severe pain isn't normal - it can point to endometriosis. Spotting between cycles is worth investigating.

This World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we want to shift the conversation - from hygiene alone, to literacy.
