SKUAST-K, Bio-Enzyme Academy Join Hands to Turn Waste into Wealth in J&K
IN PICTURES: Srinagar, September 7: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir has joined hands with the Bio-Enzyme Entrepreneurs Academy of India, Bengaluru, to promote bio-enzyme entrepreneurship as an innovative waste-to-wealth opportunity and create avenues for self-employment among students, farmers and rural entrepreneurs in Jammu and Kashmir.
A one-week Certificate Course on “Bio-Enzyme Entrepreneurship” was inaugurated today at the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat, Shalimar Main Campus. The programme is being organised by the SKUAST-K Innovation and Incubation Entrepreneurship Centre (SKIIE) in collaboration with the Bio-Enzyme Entrepreneurs Academy of India.
The certificate course is designed to provide participants with practical, hands-on training in bio-enzyme production, value addition, product development, packaging and marketing. The programme aims to equip participants with the knowledge and entrepreneurial skills required to convert organic and household waste into value-added, eco-friendly products and establish sustainable micro-enterprises.
The initiative is particularly significant in the context of Jammu and Kashmir, where the abundant availability of biodegradable waste presents considerable scope for innovative entrepreneurship, livelihood generation and environmentally sustainable business models. By promoting bio-enzyme production, the programme seeks to encourage scientific waste management while opening new avenues for income generation, particularly in rural areas.
The inaugural function was attended by senior officers and faculty members of the University, besides academicians, scientists, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders associated with innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable agriculture.
Addressing the participants, the speakers highlighted the growing importance of circular economy, sustainable agriculture and green entrepreneurship, stressing the need to transform locally available resources and waste materials into commercially viable products.
The collaboration between SKUAST-K and the Bio-Enzyme Entrepreneurs Academy is expected to strengthen the University's efforts towards fostering innovation-driven entrepreneurship and creating a culture of self-employment among youth. The training will also provide participants an opportunity to understand the complete entrepreneurial ecosystem—from production and quality management to branding, marketing and business development.
The programme is expected to culminate with participants gaining practical competencies and an understanding of the potential for establishing small-scale bio-enzyme enterprises in Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative marks another step towards promoting sustainable livelihoods, responsible waste management and entrepreneurship-led rural development in the region.
