My fav features on HealCycle are the regulation protocol for helping me in the worst moments, and future insights to be able to plan ahead.

If you have PMDD, research shows people with PMDD are more sensitive to hormonal changes especially in the luteal phase, and that sensitivity is often amplified by chronic stress or past trauma.

Stress dysregulates your HPA axis (your body’s stress system). Trauma can keep your nervous system on high alert.
Add hormonal shifts (or in some cases imbalances like estrogen dominance) on top of that… and your brain can react like it’s under threat.

That’s why PMDD can feel like anxiety, rage, hopelessness not just mood swings.

You’re not overreacting. Your brain is reacting differently. And your need to support it accordingly ❤️

You already know that “your hormones fluctuate.” But the more useful piece is what’s happening in your brain during that shift.

In the late luteal phase, it’s not just progesterone dropping.

It’s what happens to allopregnanolone, a neurosteroid that helps regulate GABA, the system that keeps your brain calm and steady.

When that changes, your brain can temporarily lose its ability to:

* regulate anxiety
* filter intrusive thoughts
* stay emotionally stable

That’s why PMDD can feel like, “I know this isn’t me, but I can’t stop it.”

This is about your brain being more sensitive to normal hormonal changes.

So what actually helps?

Instead of treating the whole month the same, you need to adjust based on where you are in your cycle.

In the late luteal phase, focus on supporting your nervous system first:

* reduce stimulation instead of pushing productivity
* prioritize sleep and stable meals
* use calming tools on HealCycle early, not after things spiral

Tracking also isn’t just about logging symptoms. It’s about recognizing patterns before they take over. A lot of the thoughts feel real in the moment, but they follow a cycle.

Timing matters more than willpower. The same tool can work very differently depending on when you use it.

That’s what we’re trying to build with HealCycle. Not just tracking, but helping you step in at the right moment.

PMDD isn’t just bad PMS. It’s a predictable window in your brain. And once you see that, you can work with it.

What’s usually your first sign that your luteal phase has started?

“I hate everyone.”
“I’m failing at everything.”
“I need to disappear.”

If these thoughts show up right before your period, this is your sign: it’s likely your luteal phase talking, not you.

Instead of spiraling, try regulating.

On HealCycle, you can simply tap into the Calming Protocol for:
• grounding
• emotional regulation tools
• guided support in the moment

Because you deserve support while it’s happening designed by people who actually understand.

How does a PMDD diagnosis actually happen?

It’s not based on one bad week or 1-2 days of PMS; it’s based on a pattern over time.

Doctors look for:
– symptoms that show up in the luteal phase (1–2 weeks before your period)
– clear relief within a few days of your period starting
– mainly mood-related symptoms (irritability, depression, anxiety, mood swings)
– symptoms that are severe enough to disrupt daily life

The key is consistency across at least 2 cycles.

How to use HealCycle to figure this out:
– log your mood every day (not just when it’s bad)
– track both emotional + physical symptom severity
– let the app map your symptoms to your cycle phases
– look for that repeat pattern: rise before your period, relief after

That pattern is what turns “I think something’s wrong” into something a doctor can actually diagnose.

If you’ve been unsure, this is where you start.

If this feels too real, you’re not being too dramatic. your hormones are just doing the absolute most.

In the days before your period (aka the luteal phase), estrogen and serotonin levels drop while progesterone fluctuates. This can mess with your mood, making you feel anxious, irritable, or suddenly emotional… even before any physical symptoms show up.

For some people, this is mild PMS. For others, it can be more intense (like PMDD), where mood changes feel overwhelming and hard to control.

The worst part? Most of us were never taught that this is actually biological, not a personality flaw.

This is exactly why we built HealCycle 💛
To help you track patterns, understand your mood shifts, and feel a little less like you’re losing it every month.

Because you deserve to understand your body, not fight it.
