Swine flu cases are increasing in Delhi, with health officials reporting a sudden spike this week. The numbers this season are nearly six times higher than last year, prompting the Union Health Minister to call an urgent review meeting on hospital readiness and testing capacity.

H1N1 spreads like the common flu, through coughing, sneezing, and contaminated surfaces, and tends to rise during humid, changeable weather like in Delhi these days.

Pay attention to sudden fever, dry cough, sore throat, body aches, and fatigue.
Most cases recover with rest and fluids, but breathlessness, chest pain, persistent high fever, confusion, or bluish lips need immediate medical attention, these can signal serious complications.

Children, elderly people, pregnant women, and those with existing health conditions should be extra cautious and seek care early.

Preventive measures are: 🔸️Wash your hands often
🔸️Wear a mask in crowded spaces if you're unwell.
🔸️Don't push through symptoms, rest and recover.

A young boy in Visakhapatnam collapsed and died after being slapped by his teacher over incomplete homework. CCTV footage from the classroom is now under investigation.

This is heartbreaking, and medically, it's important to understand why. In young children, a sudden, forceful blow to the head can cause serious internal injury even without visible external wounds. This includes bleeding inside the skull, brain swelling.

Corporal punishment in schools is banned in India, and for good reason. A child's brain and skull are still developing, making them far more vulnerable to injury than adults.

If a child shows sudden vomiting, confusion, unresponsiveness, or loss of consciousness that is matter of concern.

**5 crore worth of fake medicines just got busted near Bengaluru, and some were meant for cancer treatment.**

Authorities uncovered a counterfeit drug racket operating out of a farmhouse near Bengaluru, seizing spurious medicines worth nearly 5 crore rupees. The drugs were being repacked and relabelled with the names of trusted multinational pharmaceutical brands, including medicines used in cancer treatment, before being sold at inflated prices.

This is a serious concern because counterfeit medicines can look identical to genuine ones on the outside. A fake antibiotic, blood pressure medicine, or cancer drug won't work the way it should, and in critical care settings like ICUs, that can cost lives.

A few precautions that genuinely help: buy medicines only from licensed pharmacies, check the batch number and manufacturing details on the strip, and be cautious of unusually discounted prices on branded medicines. If a tablet looks different from your usual refill, in colour, texture, or packaging, get it verified before taking it.

Your medicine should heal you, not put you at risk. Stay alert, buy smart.

A family of five in Surat fell severely ill after eating a takeaway dish from a local restaurant. Within hours they developed vomiting and stomach pain. Sadly, the youngest child, just 5 years old, didn't survive. Her family remains hospitalised.

Authorities have sealed the restaurant after finding hygiene lapses in the kitchen, and food samples have been sent for testing.

A few things worth remembering:

Food poisoning symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach cramps can start within hours of eating contaminated food. In children, dehydration can turn dangerous fast.

If symptoms are severe, don't wait it out at home, especially with young children. Persistent vomiting, high fever, blood in stool, or extreme weakness needs urgent medical attention.

When ordering food, choose restaurants with visible hygiene practices, and be cautious with dishes containing dairy, paneer, or gravies that sit out before delivery, as they spoil faster.

Stay safe, stay alert.

Over 600 students left a residential school in Maharashtra's Amravati district after some girls began crying and laughing uncontrollably, and rumours of a haunting spread through the hostel.

Doctors who examined the students didn't find anything supernatural. What they found points to mass psychogenic illness, commonly called mass hysteria. This is a real, documented medical condition where anxiety and stress spread through a group, and people develop genuine physical symptoms like fainting, trembling, or uncontrollable crying, even though there's no infection or physical cause behind it.

It tends to happen in closed environments like schools, hostels, or workplaces, especially under conditions of stress, exam pressure, homesickness, or poor sleep. One person's distress can trigger a similar response in others nearby, almost like anxiety catching on.

The fix isn't exorcism, it's proper mental health support, rest, reassurance, and reducing the underlying stress. Recognising mass hysteria for what it is can prevent panic and get affected students the actual care they need.

Mental health is health. Let's stop treating psychological distress as something mysterious.

**Telangana records 230 dengue cases in 4 months.**

Despite the rains, Telangana logged 230 dengue cases between April and July this year, with no deaths reported so far.

Dengue spreads through Aedes mosquito bites, and cases typically rise during and after monsoon season when stagnant water creates breeding spots.

Simple steps still make the biggest difference:
🔸️Empty stagnant water around your home
🔸️Use mosquito repellents
🔸️Don't ignore high fever with body pain or rash.
🔸️Early testing saves lives.

Stay alert, not anxious.

Every child deserves a meal that actually nourishes them.

A viral video from a primary school in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh shows children being served rice with turmeric water under the mid-day meal scheme, with no dal, vegetables or protein visible. Local authorities have been alerted and the matter is under scrutiny.

Growing children need protein, vegetables and enough calories in every meal to support physical growth and concentration in class. Chronic undernutrition at this age can affect immunity, cognitive development and learning ability.

A plate of rice and turmeric water is not a nutritious meal and strict actions should be taken so that government policies are not voilated by any other schools.

13/08/2026

A UK man reportedly skipped a 3 year NHS wait and traveled to India for a double knee replacement, walking again within hours of surgery.

This is possible as modern robotic assisted and minimally invasive knee replacement techniques use smaller incisions and precise implant placement, which can allow some patients to stand and take their first steps much sooner than with traditional surgery. Most patients still take 24 hours to begin walking, and full recovery with physiotherapy takes several weeks to months regardless of technique.

Medical tourism to India has grown because of shorter wait times, experienced surgical teams, and significantly lower costs compared to private care in countries like the UK.

If you're considering surgery abroad, always verify the hospital's accreditation, the surgeon's experience, and plan for adequate post operative physiotherapy before flying home.

Congo's Ebola outbreak has now killed over 2,000 people, making it the fastest growing Ebola outbreak on record. More than 4,300 cases have been confirmed, with over 700 patients currently in isolation.

What makes this outbreak especially dangerous is that it's caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, a rarer variant with no approved vaccine or treatment, unlike the Zaire strain most existing Ebola vaccines are designed for.

Ebola spreads through direct contact with body fluids of an infected person, not through air. Early symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, and sore throat, followed by vomiting and bleeding in severe cases. Early isolation and supportive care (fluids, oxygen, treating other infections) significantly improve survival.

If you're traveling to affected regions in eastern Congo, stay updated with WHO and local health advisories.

Comment ‘HealthPil’ to ask health related doubts for FREE!

This is what happens when anger is normalised as discipline. Studies show nearly two out of every three children in India face physical abuse, often from parents or caregivers.

A father, teaching his daughter at home, lost his temper when she struggled to write. He beat her so badly that she lost consciousness and later died. He then told his wife that the child had fallen down the stairs. The truth came out only when the mother saw the bruises and went to the police.
In India, child abuse is far more common than we like to admit.

Government and NGO data show that a large number of children face physical or emotional abuse at home, often from people they trust the most. Most cases are never reported. They are normalised as “discipline”, “strict parenting”, or “for the child’s own good”.

A 4-year-old is still learning how to hold a pencil. Expecting perfection, pushing academic milestones too early, and responding with violence is not education, it is abuse.
We need to talk about and raise awareness on these things:
▪️Parental mental health and anger management
▪️Unrealistic academic pressure on very young children
▪️Normalising asking for help before frustration turns into violence
▪️Teaching that discipline never means physical harm

Parents and caregivers should be counselled on how to discipline children properly, while always keeping the child’s mental and physical well-being in mind. Discipline should never be driven by anger or frustration, and it should never cause fear or harm.
Children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and understood.
