NEPAL FLOODS: A HUMANITARIAN CRISIS UNFOLDING IN THE HIMALAYAS
Nepal is facing a devastating flood emergency, with communities across several regions severely affected by catastrophic flooding and landslides.
On 26 August 2026, a destructive flash flood along the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa triggered a powerful surge of water, mud, rocks, and debris, causing widespread destruction in downstream communities.
The impact has been profound:
🔴 903 bodies recovered
⚠️ 4,200+ people remain unaccounted for
🚁 Thousands of people rescued
🏗️ Roads, bridges, and hydropower infrastructure severely damaged
🏘️ Homes and communities heavily impacted
🌊 Flooding reported across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Nawalparasi, Tanahun, and Chitwan
🤝 Search, rescue, relief, and recovery operations continue with international support.
