GCW Parade Hosts Two-Day Programme on World Heart Day
Poster Competition and Awareness Talk Highlight Importance of Heart Health
Jammu, September 27
The Centre for Women’s Studies, Government College for Women (GCW) Parade, organised a two-day programme to mark World Heart Day under the supervision of Principal Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about heart health through creative participation and expert guidance.
On the first day, a poster-making competition on the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat” was held, with 28 students showcasing their creativity. Based on various parameters, Huma Mukhtar secured the first prize, Harika Raj Nagrotra came second, and Janhvi Raina bagged the third position. The competition was judged by Dr. Rajesh Kant (HoD Chemistry), Dr. Sanjeet Kour (HoD Zoology), and Dr. Vinus Sharma (HoD Computer Science).
Day two featured an awareness talk by Dr. Veenu Kaul, Associate Director and Cardiologist at Medanta Heart Institute, Gurugram. He emphasized the need to identify unique symptoms of heart disease and adopt preventive measures tailored to individual health conditions such as high cholesterol and blood pressure. He also highlighted the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, stress management, and quitting smoking as key lifestyle changes for a healthy heart. The interactive session saw active participation from students who raised several queries.
Certificates were awarded to all participants. Principal Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo lauded Convener Dr. Seema Malpotra and committee members Dr. Shally Chadha, Dr. Ramesh Chander, Dr. Komal Bangotra, and Dr. Arti Devi for organising an informative and engaging programme. The event was also attended by Dr. Sushma Chib, Dr. Nitu Sharma, Dr. Tazim, and Dr. Amar.
The programme concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of awareness and lifestyle choices in preventing heart disease and promoting healthier living among youth.
