📢 Training on To***co-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) Successfully Conducted at SCERT Kashmir, Bemina Srinagar

The Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education, Kashmir, organized a one-day Training, Capacity Building and Technical Support Programme on effective implementation of To***co-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) across all districts of Kashmir Division on 16th May 2026 at Training Hall SCERT Kashmir, Bemina Srinagar.

The programme focused on strengthening coordination, enhancing awareness regarding COTPA-2003, and building institutional capacity for creating to***co-free educational environments in schools and colleges.

Officials from Health and Education Departments participated actively and discussed strategies for effective enforcement, reporting, awareness generation, and sustainable implementation of ToFEI guidelines throughout Kashmir Division.

Together, we move towards a healthier, to***co-free future for our youth. 🚭

Divisional Level Sensitization Workshop of Programme Managers under NHM Held in Srinagar.
Srinagar, 5th May 2026 (Tuesday):

The Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir, in collaboration with Vital Strategies, under the National To***co Control Programme (NTCP), organized a Divisional Level Sensitization Workshop of Programme Managers of different schemes under the National Health Mission (NHM) for the Kashmir Division at SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Srinagar, today.
The workshop, which commenced at 10:30 AM, aimed at strengthening inter programme coordination, enhancing awareness on cross cutting public health priorities, and improving the effective implementation of NHM schemes, with special emphasis on to***co control and preventive health initiatives.
The programme was attended by Dr. Fazlul Qadir Parray, Principal, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina; Dr. Jehangir Bakshi, Director, Health Services, Kashmir; Dr. Nighat Yasmeen, Deputy Director (Headquarters); Dr. Saba Wani, Deputy Director (Schemes); and Dr. Jehanzaib Tanki, Deputy Director (D) & Nodal Officer, NTCP, along with other senior officers of the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir. Programme Managers from various NHM schemes and technical experts actively participated in the sensitization workshop.
The deliberations focused on convergence among health programmes, best practices, implementation challenges, and the importance of coordinated efforts in achieving improved public health outcomes across the Kashmir Division.
While interacting with the participants, Dr. Mohd Naser, State Programme Coordinator (To***co Control), along with the team from Vital Strategies, and Dr. Omair, State Consultant, IDSP; and Dr. Mudasir, Consultant, WHO J&K & Ladakh, emphasized the need for an integrated and collaborative approach for effective delivery of health services. The speakers reiterated the commitment of the Health Department towards strengthening public health systems and promoting to***co free and healthy communities.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for experience sharing, capacity building, and reinforcing the objectives of NHM and NTCP at the divisional level. Er. Zakir Hussain and Mr. Mohd Turab provided logistical and technical support for the workshop, while the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Maria Zaffer and Dr. Syma Sidiq. Mr. Sharvan Kumar, MIS Trainer from Vital Strategies, New Delhi, also joined the programme virtually to conduct a training session on the MIS platform.

A District-Level Training Program for Panchayat Secretaries on the To***co-Free Village Initiative was successfully conducted in District Shopian on 25th April 2026.

The training focused on strengthening grassroots-level efforts to create to***co-free communities, enhancing awareness about the harmful effects of to***co, and ensuring effective implementation of to***co control measures under COTPA 2003 India to***co law.

Panchayat Secretaries were sensitized about their crucial role in mobilizing communities, enforcing regulations, and promoting healthier lifestyles at the village level.
