SGPGIMS Conducts Successful Workshop to Promote Research Culture
The Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, successfully organized the “1st Workshop for Promotion of Research” on 13.04.2026 at the Khurana Auditorium, Library Complex, witnessing enthusiastic participation from faculty members, residents, and research scholars. The workshop, conducted under the aegis of the Research Cell, SGPGIMS, aimed at strengthening the institutional research framework and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration across disciplines.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. R. K. Dhiman emphasized the importance of research in advancing patient care and reiterated SGPGIMS’ commitment to creating a robust research ecosystem. He focused that research in SGPGIMS should be initiated at the level of residents, research scholars and young faculty and clinical faculty should devote at least 20% time to research. Prof Dhiman provided practical tips to young faculty members like starting of research journey with Intramural grants and using the results of intramural research to plan for Extramural grants. He also emphasized that all senior researchers should guide at least 6 PhD students at a time to create a pool of highly trained researchers and apply to ICMR, New Delhi for establishing centers of excellence at SGPGIMS, Lucknow
Prof. Shaleen Kumar highlighted the need for active participation of young researchers and residents in scientific activities; he emphasized that research in this institute concern with wellbeing of patient health care.
The workshop featured a series of insightful sessions covering key domains of biomedical research, including:
Clinical trials infrastructure and opportunities
Core laboratory facilities and shared research platforms
Animal research facilities at SGPGIMS
Stem cell research and regenerative medicine
Collaborative research initiatives with the Centre of Biomedical Research (CBMR)
Innovation and technology development in collaboration with Software Technology Parks of India (STPI)
Experts including Prof. Amit Goel, Prof. Khaliqur Rehman, Dr. Alok Kumar, Dr. C. P. Chaturvedi, Dr. Atul Garg and Shree Shyam Kumar delivered detailed presentations, highlighting the state-of-the-art infrastructure and opportunities available for multidisciplinary research.
An engaging interactive session allowed participants to discuss research challenges, explore collaborative possibilities, and seek guidance from senior faculty and experts. The initiative is expected to significantly boost research activities at SGPGIMS by encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations, enhancing research output, and nurturing young investigators.
