Growth Decoded #3 📈

👩 Mom: 150 cm
👨 Dad: 190 cm

So… how tall could their child be? 👀

Using the Mid-Parental Height (MPH) formula:

👧 Expected height for a girl ≈ 163.5 cm
👦 Expected height for a boy ≈ 176.5 cm

But here's the important part ⬇️

This number is NOT a prediction of exactly how tall your child will become.

MPH is a calculated estimate of genetic height potential, and many other factors influence a child's final adult height — including nutrition, health, hormones, puberty timing and overall growth pattern.

So don't look at MPH and think:
"My child WILL be this tall."

Think:
"This gives me an approximate genetic target to understand my child's growth." 📈

Now I'm curious — have you ever calculated your child's mid-parental height? What did you get? 👇

Tell me your child's predicted height in the comments!

Puberty decoded #2
PUBERTY TOO EARLY? 🚨 When can it be dangerous?

Puberty before 8 years in girls or before 9 years in boys is considered precocious puberty.

So if your child is showing signs like:

• Breast development in girls
• Testicular enlargement in boys
• Pubic/underarm hair
• Body odour or acne
• Rapid height gain or other signs of advancing puberty

…it deserves evaluation.

Why is early puberty important?

🔴 One group has an underlying/organic cause.
In these children, finding the underlying cause is important—not just because early puberty can affect growth, but because the underlying condition itself may have other effects on the body and overall health.

🟠 In another group, no specific cause may be identified.
But even then, early activation of puberty can cause rapid bone maturation, which may reduce the child's remaining growth potential and ultimately affect adult height.
That's why early recognition and timely evaluation matter.

👉 If your child is showing signs of puberty earlier than expected, don't ignore it.

Baby ghar pe. Maa office mein. Milk? Rapido pe. 🛵🍼😂

Kuch din pehle full feed express nahi ho paayi… but baby ko toh feed chahiye na! 😅

So jo milk express hua, usse sterilised bottle mein pack kiya, ice packs ke saath properly cooled rakha, aur ek clean box mein dala… aur phir Rapido se ghar bhej diya.

Ghar par hamari amazing didi ne receive kiya — because apparently exclusive breastfeeding mein maa ke saath ek poori logistics team bhi hoti hai. 😂❤️

Kabhi pumping. Kabhi storing. Kabhi ice packs. Kabhi milk ka commute. Kabhi maid ki collection duty.

Exclusive breastfeeding isn't always “easy”.
But with planning, support and a little jugaad… we make it work. ❤️

And honestly, behind every feed there can be SO much effort that nobody sees..

Working mom life: Maa office mein ho sakti hai, par maa ka doodh ghar pahunchna chahiye. 🍼❤️

Growth decoded # 2

Growth isn't hidden in one magical food. 🌱

As a Pediatric Endocrinologist, one of the most common questions I hear is: "Doctor, what should I feed my child to increase height?"

Here's the evidence-based answer:
✔️ No single food can make a child taller than their genetic potential. ✔️ But good nutrition is essential for helping children achieve the maximum height their genes allow.

The key pillars are:
🥚 Adequate protein
🥛 Calcium
☀️ Vitamin D
😴 Good quality sleep
🏃‍♂️ Regular physical activity

Remember, nutrition is only one piece of the puzzle. Genetics, hormones, chronic illnesses, and the timing of puberty also play major roles.

If your child is growing much slower than expected, don't keep changing diets or buying "height boosters." They may need a proper growth assessment.

Hormones decoded # 1

"My child is always tired... should we check the thyroid?" 🤔

It's one of the most common questions I hear in clinic.

The truth? Thyroid disease is NOT the most common cause of fatigue in children.

Before jumping to thyroid tests, we first think about:
✔️ Not getting enough sleep
✔️ Iron deficiency (even before anemia develops)
✔️ Poor nutrition
✔️ Too much screen time and too little physical activity, too much academic pressure
✔️ Stress, anxiety, or depression
✔️ Poor-quality sleep due to snoring or sleep apnea
✔️ Recovery after viral illnesses
✔️Dehydration in hot weather

But fatigue can also be an early sign of medical conditions that need evaluation—including thyroid disorders.

🚩 If tiredness is accompanied by poor height gain, constipation, dry skin, cold intolerance, delayed puberty, rarely early puberty or a swelling in the neck, thyroid disease becomes much more likely.

As pediatricians, we don't treat a symptom—we evaluate the whole child.

Save this reel for future reference and share it with a parent who has wondered, "Could it be a thyroid issue?"

Ever thought why the CBSE board released a circular on Sugar boards in schools ?

What is the reason ?

What is THE BIGGEST UNSEEN UNNOTICED ADDICTION in our houses ?? I am not talking about -- Drugs / alcohol / smoking .. they are all very well noted and worked upon .. So what am I talking about ?

It is that figure of speech --- KHAANE KE BAAD MEETHA TO HOTA HI HAI ..

KUCH MEETHA HO JAAYE ..

It is Sugar addiction .. the sense of fulfillment and reward it gives on consumption makes it ---

- Difficult for kids to ignore SUGAR
- Craving for SUGAR
- As it doesn't fulfill hunger for long and child wants fulfillment of craving again, he / she takes more SUGARY stuff
- As child eats SUGARY EMPTY CALORIES, they miss out on other more nutritious eatables and hence lead to micronutrient deficiencies

So parents and caregivers, kids don't know what they are up for if they eat so much SUGAR .. But you know after seeing this video.. So dear friends, having a SWEET TOOTH may not be great ... Think about it .. Is it in control or out of hand ?

Chhote bacche ko namak den ya nahi ?

Namak ko restrict kyun karna chahiye ?

How can you know how much salt to give for your family ?

An example of how to use the above knowledge ..
Say, you have 4 family members (Food cooked in the same kitchen) --

1 - 10 month old (no salt)
2 - 3 year old (2.5 g salt)
3 - Mother (5-6 g / day)
4 - Father (5-6 g / day)

Total salt per day - 12.5 g / day
1 teaspoon is 5 g salt

So in a whole day, you may add, 2.5 teaspoons of salt / day !!!
