Every woman deserves an informed birth.

Not a birth driven by fear.
Not a birth where questions feel inconvenient.
Not a birth where decisions are made without understanding the options.

An informed birth means:
• Knowing the benefits and risks
• Understanding alternatives
• Being heard and respected
• Having the confidence to ask, “Can you tell me more?”

Whether birth unfolds exactly as planned or takes a different path, information gives families something incredibly important: the ability to make decisions with clarity, not confusion.

This isn’t about choosing one type of birth over another.
It’s about making sure every woman has the knowledge, support, and voice she deserves.

Because informed is not difficult.
Informed is empowered. 💛

Visiting a newborn is exciting, but a few small actions can make a huge difference for both the baby and the new parents.

Before you visit:
✨ Wash your hands
✨ Stay away if you’re unwell
✨ Avoid kissing the baby
✨ Respect feeding and sleep times
✨ Ask before holding the baby
✨ Support the parents, not just admire the baby

Sometimes the best gift you can bring isn’t a toy or outfit—it’s consideration, kindness, and understanding.

Save this post for your next newborn visit💛

Part 3 : Birth Story
Water birth was something I had deeply envisioned. But my body had a different plan. From the moment I arrived at the centre, my BP was slightly elevated. It continued to fluctuate through labor. There was no fetal distress but it wasn’t the safest space for me to step into the water. When I asked, Priyanka held me and said “This baby chooses to be born on land. And you’re doing beautifully right here.” It was a moment of letting go, of surrendering, and I did without letting this thought take over me and stall labor. The contractions kept growing stronger. There came a point I thought I couldn’t do it anymore. I was almost giving up.
I had tried everything the ball, movement, all fours, until I held onto the birth rope. But I was breaking. And that’s when held me and said, “Pull yourself together. Nobody else is going to do this for you. You have to do this, Mekha. Hold yourself up and do this. Nee cheythe pattu. (You have to do this.)” These words, they were so powerful and stirred within me a renewed sense of energy. I looked around and realised I had Nitin supporting me from behind, nurses on each side rubbing my back, reaffirming and supporting me, and my midwife right ahead of me. A room full of people carrying the same intention and doing all what they can, how could I break down or feel weak? The urge to push was really strong , I squatted and started to try. At 10:09pm, my first push and my bag of waters released. Second push, I knew I was almost there. I could feel the ring of fire and her head had crowned. With everything in me I squatted gave one last push with a loud and primal roar. A lioness roar that we used to practice in BV’s prenatal workout sessions. At 10:19pm, she was there. Literally roared her out. I held her right in my arms as I sat down there. No separation. No rushing. No interruption. She was placed on me exactly where she belonged. This moment, time stood still as I held her.

Part 2 : Birth Story
We had been in Kerala for weeks. And Nitin had to return to Mumbai for work. And one thought stayed with me the entire time, What if he doesn’t make it? I remember asking my midwife (Priyanka),
“What if he doesn’t come back on time?” And she said something that grounded me instantly, “If this baby decides to come, it will come irrespectively of everything else. We can’t stop labor. But you won’t be alone. We’re all here for you.” I held on to that and he left on 22nd April. And by the evening of 23rd April something shifted. It wasn’t obvious. No dramatic start. Just a heaviness. A discomfort I couldn’t explain. But deep down I knew. Something was beginning. I stayed in touch with the medical team. Kept Nitin in the loop. And by the 24th night things started to intensify. That night was slow. Filled with movement, breathing, hot water bag, and waiting. My mom was right beside me. I used my birth ball, walked around, rested when I could. Doing everything in my capacity to not let fear take over. Just surrendering. Trusting. Letting it unfold.
By 25th April, morning Nitin had made it, to be back with me to support labor and that really boosted my confidence. The contractions continued through the day. Some strong. Some manageable. I stayed home, constantly checking in with my body and with the medical team at BV. They kept checking on me asking me, “Is it taking over you yet?” And somewhere I knew, not yet. Because I didn’t want to rush. I didn’t want to go in too early but by evening everything began to change. My mucus plug started shedding. The heaviness deepened. And this time the contractions were taking over me. We stepped out for a short walk. Trying to breathe through it. Trying to stay steady. But with each contraction I could feel it getting stronger. There was no distracting myself anymore. by 7:30pm we were at BV and the moment we reached, I had the team waiting for me smiling, calm and all ready. I clearly remember looking at Priyanka and saying, I think it’s almost time to meet the baby. She smiled, patted my back and said, “Then it is.” She checked me internally and I was already 5cms dilated.

We didn’t tell anyone but at 35 weeks pregnant, we left home 🤍
On August 31st, 2024 ,on my birthday I found out I was pregnant. And from that moment, Nitin and I knew one thing for sure. Every decision we make, we’re going to savour for a lifetime. We didn’t want this to be just another pregnancy. We wanted it to feel intentional, equal & ours.
We wanted to birth in a space where our choices would be respected not questioned.
We were exploring our options and one place kept calling us back. Birth Village in Kerala just felt right. Not because someone convinced us but because it aligned with everything we were looking for. At 20 weeks, we had our first consultation with our midwife, Priyanka. And before that, whenever I spoke to Nitin about travelling for birth, he wasn’t fully convinced. It felt like a lot. But that one conversation changed everything. It wasn’t convincing. It wasn’t persuasion. It was just, CLARITY. We spoke about birth. About trust. About what we really wanted this experience to feel like. And I still remember the moment we ended that call, Nitin looked at me and said, “Let’s do this. I want you to birth here.” 😌
From that point on, we knew we were choosing something different. We shared this decision with our parents, took the time to help them understand, to answer their questions, and slowly, we gained their trust. And that mattered to us. But beyond that, we chose to keep it to ourselves. Not out of fear but to protect this space we were creating for birth. Because we knew this wouldn’t be a decision everyone would understand. And we didn’t want doubt or fear to shape something we felt so strongly about. At 35 weeks, we flew to Kerala. Planned everything quietly. Found a home for ourselves there. Held this decision close, just ours.
And the moment I visited BV for the first time, everything in me softened. It didn’t feel clinical. It didn’t feel intimidating. It felt safe, warm. Like I could truly let go. For the first time, even the fears I didn’t realise I was holding became quiet.

You can’t schedule a baby like an event.

Labour begins when the body and baby are ready.

What matters isn’t the date on the calendar —
it’s the time your baby needs to grow.

Is there a ‘best time of day’ to conceive?

Morning = higher testosterone
Night = more relaxed and connected

But the truth is — there’s no fixed time that guarantees conception.
