Your heart muscle needs oxygen to survive. A heart attack occurs when the blood flow that brings oxygen to the heart muscle is severely reduced or cut off completely. This happens because coronary arteries that supply the heart muscle with blood flow can become narrowed from a buildup of fat, cholesterol, and other substances that together are called plaque 💓
Symptoms for a heart attack may include:
• chest pain or discomfort
• nausea
• sweating
• lightheadedness or dizziness
• fatigue

A heart attack is a serious medical emergency. Contact us immediately for medical attention if you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms that could signal a heart attack ☎️

Berries are some of the healthiest foods you can eat, as they're low in calories but high in fibre, vitamin C, and antioxidants. Many berries have proven beneficial for heart health. These include lowering blood pressure and cholesterol while reducing oxidative stress💖

According to a few studies, a bowl of blueberries can help in boosting immunity and can reduce the risk of diabetes, obesity, and heart diseases. Furthermore, consuming a small portion of berries daily can help in strengthening the metabolism and prevent any metabolic syndrome and deficiency 🍓

Make an effort to eat a few portions of berries a week and sample different types. They make a great snack or a healthy breakfast topping 😄

Researchers have found that the likelihood of cardiac events with Azithromycin compared with amoxicillin was not significantly higher, and these events actually were quite low or rare in both groups- with the most common cardiac events being fainting and palpitations 💟

It will definitely be interesting to see how the probable Covid-19 vaccine fairs in trials. More research will be required to see the interaction of vaccines with other drugs 💉

For centuries, the heart had been equated with the soul of human beings. By far the most common form of human sacrifice in the 15th century Aztec empire was heart-extraction, which seems to have related to the Aztec belief that the heart was both the seat of the individual’s soul and a fragment of the sun’s heat. As such, transplanting the heart was perceived as ‘the surgical equivalent of the ascent of Everest’ 🏔️

On 3 December 1967, a large medical, nursing, and technical team led by the surgeon Dr. Christiaan Barnard performed the world’s first human to human heart transplant, placing Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, on the international map🗺️

This led to unprecedented media coverage. Indeed, this first heart transplant was the world’s most widely reported medical event ever, resulting in the celebrity status of a previously unknown physician👨🏻‍⚕️

Meditation activates our bodies' “rest-and-digest” functions, which counteracts our “fight-or-flight” responses. Integrating the ancient practice into a daily routine has been linked to lower heart rate and blood pressure, which may lower your risk of heart disease 🧘‍♀️

Based on existing evidence, experts agreed that meditation may promote heart health and reduce cardiovascular risk. Studies suggest that meditation may help lower blood pressure, aid in smoking cessation, and reduce mortality risk from heart disease 🤞🏻

Keep meditating for a healthy heart 💝

The heart consists of several layers of tissue including a plethora of cell types, together with working heart muscle, connective tissue cells, and cells that make up blood vessels. These cells work in unison to ensure the proper functioning of the heart and thus the constant supply of fresh, oxygenated blood reaches the rest of the body💖

Despite its seemingly straightforward function, the heart is a complex organ with an even more complex structure💯

The results of the research are striking that illustrate how this method provides a biometric model of the developing heart using a rather simple protocol. This tool could be helpful in studying the molecular processes during heart development, and in developing and testing novel drugs against cardiac disease 🙌🏻

We love when the buzz surrounding coffee keeps getting better! Research shows that drinking coffee is linked to a lower risk of heart failure, stroke and coronary heart disease ☕

Habitual coffee drinking (in moderation!) has been linked to a lower risk of coronary heart disease in women. For health-conscious coffee lovers then, the most important question isn’t, “is it good for you?” but rather, “what’s your brew of choice?” However, too much caffeine along with too many additives like cream and sugar risks negating the health benefits ⚠️

We recommend paying attention to how you’re feeling after consuming coffee; the best way to judge how your body reacts to different stimulants is to always be in sync with how your body’s feeling🧏🏻

Though we rarely observe it most of the time, the steady beating of a human heart is an astoundingly complex performance. Similar to the rhythms of an orchestra, thousands of cells have to master their individual performances as well as work in synchronicity 💓

The atlas is part of the Human Cell Atlas initiative, an effort funded by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to map all the cell types in the human body. Isn’t this exciting that we now have a zip code for each cell to know what population it belongs to?🧬

In due course, what researchers intend to find out is how the different types of cells fit together at a microscopic and at a functional level. That might seem like another ambitious goal, but judging by the latest research we've already been provided with an exhilarating beginning🔬🧫
