Two days. One of India’s most dynamic fintech gatherings. And Protean was right at the heart of the action.

At the ASSOCHAM India International FinTech Festival 2026, the conversations went far beyond what’s next in fintech — they explored what it will take to build digital finance that is more connected, trusted, scalable and ready for the future.

Protean was thrilled to participate as the DPI Partner, bringing our perspective as an organisation that has spent decades building population-scale digital infrastructure.

And there was plenty happening across the floor.

From conversations with fintech leaders, financial institutions and ecosystem partners at the Protean exhibition space, to exchanging ideas on how Digital Public Infrastructure can unlock new possibilities for businesses, the festival gave us the opportunity to connect with the people shaping the next chapter of financial services.

On stage, Rakesh Dosi, Chief Business & Product Officer, Protean, joined industry leaders for a discussion on “Compliance-by-Design: Embedding Digital Lending, KYC and Data Governance into Products” — sharing perspectives on why trust, governance and regulatory readiness increasingly need to be designed into digital products from day one.

Partnership. Ideas. Conversations. Connections.

ASSOCHAM FinTech Festival brought the ecosystem together — and for us at Protean, it was another opportunity to demonstrate how infrastructure built for billions can create possibilities for business.

The fintech ecosystem is moving fast.
We’re excited to be building what helps it move further.

In this clip, Rakesh Dosi — Our Chief Business & Product Officer — breaks down the real shift happening across enterprises: from an ownership mindset to an orchestration mindset, with APIs as the enabler.

His take: APIs were never meant to be a cost centre. They're growth enablers — and for the best API-first organizations (think AWS, DBS Bank), they've become entirely new revenue streams. Compliance is evolving into governance. And the hardest part of going API-first isn't the tech — it's culture.

"We are a bank, not a technology company." Rakesh Dosi still remembers hearing that from a public sector bank leader years ago. That bank has since invested over ₹2,000 crore in digital infrastructure.

Can APIs do much more than just connect applications?

In this clip, Rakesh Dosi — Our Chief Business & Product Officer — makes the case that APIs should never be viewed as a cost centre or “just infrastructure.” They’re growth enablers. The most successful API-first organizations are turning what was once pure overhead into entirely new revenue streams.
APIs aren’t only about connectivity — whether one system can talk to another. They’re about orchestration: how multiple systems come together to create one seamless experience.

Could an 18-month project really become a 6-week sprint?

In this clip, Rakesh Dosi — Our Chief Business & Product Officer — shares the story of a mid-size NBFC that spent nearly 18 months just building integrations for a digital lending platform: credit bureaus, KYC vendors, core banking systems, custom middleware — brittle connections with almost no standardization. The product never saw the light of day.

Today, a fintech can assemble that same stack in 5–6 weeks using standardized APIs.

His words: the story of APIs in India is really the story of turning an 18-month nightmare into a 6-week sprint — at national scale.

Security isn’t a cost of doing business. It is the business.

In this clip from our conversation with ET TechGig, Rakesh Dosi — Our Chief Business & Product Officer — makes the case that trust and compliance are becoming a competitive strategy, not a checkbox. One breach is all it takes to impact a brand.

His advice for enterprise leaders: if your CISO isn’t your best friend yet, that’s the first thing to fix.
