From Cheryl Wood at the front line in Cambodia helping with Life Matters:
The reason why I am writing to everyone is to pass on some encouragement about the effectiveness of AFL overall. We are a group of 16 facilitating this programme and many of us have been touched and engaged by AFL. I am giving the world news each day with Son Tyson from Vietnam, and one of the team taking on the Inner Reflection times - with Tuan Ahn and Cheng. ( Son met IofC when an AFL group came to his uni.)
At the moment Huda and Nhat from Vietnam are taking a session on - "Dealing Creatively with Conflict". Before this Wazeen from Indonesia and Khue took the session on Exploring Change, while yesterday Vuth and Star worked on the session of Unity in Diversity and Ngan and Wazeen worked together on another session! It is so encouraging. The participants are engaged, exploring the idea of change - so much hardship has been suffered by many of them. Ouk Serei Sopheak who lived through the Khmer Rouge time had a deep perspective to share on the issue of suffering. He said that his suffering had taught him much about life and he is grateful he had the chance to learn in this way!
I won't write more at this point but just to say this is a really historic course. It is being run by folk who have done it at Armagh and folk who have done AFL and it is bringing together the nations of South East Asia in a new way. Thailand, Laos, Burma, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar and Australia are all represented!!
