WHY NATIONAL DEWORMING DAY CELEBRATED TWO TIMES:

National Deworming Day is held on 10 February and 10 August because India conducts the programme in two rounds every year, approximately six months apart. This repeated coverage helps:
• Treat children who may have acquired worm infections after the first round.
• Reach children who were absent or missed the medicine earlier.
• Maintain regular protection against soil-transmitted intestinal worms.
• Reduce complications such as anaemia, malnutrition, poor growth and reduced school performance.
The programme targets children and adolescents aged 1–19 years through schools and Anganwadi centres. The Government of India officially describes 10 February as the first round and 10 August as the second round. The two dates are therefore not separate health days; they are two rounds of the same National Deworming Day programme.
