🏅Hyperthyroidism
Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland produces excess thyroid hormone, increasing the body’s metabolism.
Symptoms may include weight loss despite increased appetite, heat intolerance, excessive sweating, palpitations, anxiety, tremors, frequent stools, and menstrual changes.
Common causes include Graves’ disease, toxic thyroid nodules, and thyroiditis. Treatment may include antithyroid medications, radioactive iodine, or surgery, depending on the cause and severity.
🏅Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland produces too little thyroid hormone, slowing down the body’s metabolism.
Common symptoms include fatigue, weight gain, feeling cold, dry skin, hair loss, constipation, low mood, and menstrual irregularities.
It is commonly caused by autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s), iodine imbalance, or certain medications.
Treatment usually involves thyroid hormone replacement with levothyroxine and regular TSH monitoring.
