The Most Common Types of Eczema Explained

Eczema is a group of inflammatory skin conditions that can cause itching, dryness, redness, scaling, swelling, or cracking.

Atopic dermatitis is the most common form and often develops in people with allergies, asthma, or a family history of eczema.

Contact dermatitis appears after the skin touches an irritating substance or an allergen such as soap, fragrance, metal, or chemicals.

Dyshidrotic eczema causes small, intensely itchy blisters on the hands, fingers, or feet.

Nummular eczema produces round or coin-shaped itchy patches that may become dry and scaly.

Seborrheic dermatitis commonly affects the scalp, eyebrows, sides of the nose, ears, and other oily areas.

Stasis dermatitis usually develops on the lower legs due to poor blood circulation and may cause swelling or discoloration.

Asteatotic eczema is linked to extremely dry skin and is more common in older adults.

Hand eczema may result from frequent washing, chemicals, gloves, or repeated exposure to irritants.

Eyelid eczema can cause redness, itching, swelling, and flaky skin around the eyes.

Symptoms may look similar, but treatment depends on the exact cause and type.

Avoid scratching, use fragrance-free moisturizers, and identify possible triggers.

9 Heel Changes You Shouldn’t Ignore

Your heels can develop changes for many reasons beyond ordinary dry skin.
Cracking may worsen when skin becomes extremely dry or pressured.
Hard thick skin usually develops from repeated friction.
Persistent redness may indicate irritation or inflammation.
Scaling and peeling can occur with athlete’s foot or dermatitis.
Itchy heels may accompany fungal or inflammatory skin conditions.
Unexplained swelling deserves attention, especially when persistent.
Numbness, tingling, or burning can sometimes involve the nerves.
Open sores or wounds that do not heal require medical evaluation.
Early attention is especially important for people with diabetes or circulation problems.
