A young man had a growing lump in his right eye since he was a child. When doctors examined him, they found a raised, yellowish-white bump that stretched from 7 to 9 o'clock near the edge of the eye. There were small blood vessels on top of it, and two hair follicles were sticking out. These features are typical of something called a limbal dermoid.

The doctors removed the lump with a surgery that involves removing layers of the cornea. The examination of the removed lump under a microscope confirmed the diagnosis of a limbal dermoid. Limbal dermoids are not cancerous, and they are made up of misplaced tissues. Sometimes, these lumps can have things like hair, teeth, bone, or muscle inside them.

They can cause visual abnormalities due to the development of astigmatism, encroachment on the visual axis, and fatty component infiltration into the cornea.

Surgery might be done to remove them for cosmetic reasons.
