2024 International guideline update on Tdap vaccination: Dr
Individuals who did not receive Tdap at or after the age of 11 years: One dose of Tdap, followed by Td or Tdap should be administered every ten years.
Tdap administered at the age of 10 years may be considered to be as the adolescent dose, which is recommended at the age of 11 to 12 years.
For individuals who have not received primary vaccination series for tetanus, diphtheria, or pertussis: One dose of Tdap, followed by one dose of Td/Tdap at least four weeks later, and a third dose of Td or Tdap 6 to 12 months is recommended (Tdap is the preferred first dose and can be substituted for any Td dose), Td or Tdap every ten years.
Pregnant individuals: One dose of Tdap is recommended in each pregnancy, preferably in the early part of 27 to 36 weeks of gestation.
Wound management: For those who have received three or more doses of tetanus-toxoid-containing vaccine, for clean and minor wounds, Tdap or Td may be administered if it has been more than ten years since the last dose of tetanus-toxoid-containing vaccine. For other types of wounds, Tdap or Td should be administered if it has been more than five years since the last dose of the tetanus-toxoid-containing vaccine was administered. Tdap is preferred for those who have not been vaccinated with Tdap or whose Tdap history remains unknown. If a tetanus-toxoid-containing vaccine is indicated in pregnancy, Tdap may be used.
