Paputtu.
Paputtu (often shortened from p**l puttu, meaning "milk puttu") is a traditional, soft, steamed rice cake from the Kodagu (Coorg) region of Karnataka, India. It is a staple breakfast or comfort food item, typically made with broken rice (rice rava), grated coconut, milk, sugar, and cardamom.
Flavor Profile: The dish is lightly sweetened with a prominent fragrance of coconut and cardamom.
Pairings: While it can be eaten with honey and butter for breakfast, its classic pairing is with spicy Coorg Egg curry , chicken or mutton curry, where the mild, creamy cake balances the deep, intense flavors of the curry.
Texture: It is light yet firm, not soggy.
Variations : Some recipes use only coconut milk for a richer flavor, while others use a mix of milk and water. It is sometimes topped with extra grated coconut before steaming.
