🤰 Placenta Near the Cervix in Pregnancy? Don’t Panic—Know the Facts! 🩺

If your ultrasound shows that the placenta is low-lying or near the cervix, it does not always mean that your pregnancy is at immediate risk. The position and degree of placenta previa need to be assessed carefully, usually with follow-up ultrasound as advised by your doctor.

Placenta previa is commonly classified into different grades depending on how close the placenta is to or how much it covers the cervical opening:

🔹 Grade 1: Placenta is close to the cervix but does not cover it.
🔹 Grade 2: Placenta reaches the cervical opening without covering it.
🔹 Grade 3: Placenta partially covers the cervical opening.
🔹 Grade 4: Placenta completely covers the cervical opening and carries a higher risk of bleeding.

⚠️ If you have a low-lying placenta or placenta previa:

• Get regular follow-up scans as advised by your gynaecologist.
• Avoid strenuous activities if your doctor recommends restriction.
• Follow your doctor’s advice regarding sexual activity.

Many expecting parents wonder why their Level 2 Ultrasound (Detailed Anomaly Scan) sometimes takes much longer than a routine ultrasound. The answer is simple: this scan requires a detailed evaluation of the baby’s development, and every important structure needs to be carefully assessed.

During a Level 2 scan, the doctor evaluates several important structures, including:

🩺 HSG Test for Infertility | Understanding Fallopian Tube Patency

If you are having difficulty conceiving, your doctor may recommend an HSG (Hysterosalpingography) test as part of the infertility evaluation.

HSG is an imaging procedure used to assess the uterine cavity and whether the fallopian tubes are open. Blocked or narrowed tubes can interfere with the natural movement of the egg and s***m, making conception more difficult.

✨ What does an HSG involve?
A contrast dye is gently introduced through the uterus while X-ray imaging is used to observe its passage through the fallopian tubes. If the dye passes freely through the tubes, they are generally considered patent.

💗 HSG under anaesthesia:
For patients who are anxious about discomfort, the procedure may be performed with appropriate anaesthesia or sedation, depending on the doctor's assessment and the facility's protocol.

🔎 Can HSG also help with tubal blockage?
In some cases, the pressure of the contrast dye may help overcome minor tubal spasms or clear small amounts of debris, but HSG is primarily a diagnostic test and should not be considered a treatment for significant tubal blockage or adhesions.
