I love watching the Goldenrod find her voice this time of year. Her sweet tiny flower faces opening slowly and singing to the Sun and the Moon. Goldenrod shares her energetics with us so that we may find our voices when we find it difficult to Speak.

A few weeks ago I decided that I loved Flowers so much I wanted to paint them....Watercolor professionals make it look so easy! 😅

Today I practiced with the Beloved Pokeberry that I have adored all Summer. Her season is ending and I wanted to cherish a bit of her Spirit until I see her next Spring. Pokeberry and Green Spirulina.

I experienced a wonderful time speaking at the Southeast District Conference for The Herb Society of America at Petals From the Past about my Art in Herbalism. I was Honored to receive the Gift of a Business Membership to grow and build my Mission of bringing the Plants and people together through creative expression. I feel incredibly Blessed with support from a group of people full of Wisdom and Joyful excitement for the natural world that grows around us. I look forward to the Adventures and learning to come. My presentation of Oxymels, Shrubbymels, and Spirit Lifting Elixirs will feature 180 unique tastings and my Stories of the plants including Chamomile and Rose, Kitchen Scrap Fire C***r, a True Elderberry Syrup. Mocktail to Theme: I've crafted a Spiced Maple Peach and Ginger fizz with a Brown Sugar/Rosehip/Cinnamon and spicy ginger rim, garnished with Rose petals and persimmon. 🙏❤🌎💫

A Handful of Henbit-Story 1.

Have you ever noticed that the Plant Spirits and her medicine always show up in your Life at just the right moment? Never too early. Never too late. Always at the moment your Life needs to change.

When I was child, my family and I traveled from Georgia to Virginia every year in the early Spring. A lot of sweet memories from those visits, but one of my sweetest memories was my family arriving Home to purple waves of Henbit that now covered my Suburban neighborhood. As a wide eyed child, peeking over the car door and out of the window, those purple waves of tiny bright faces, sun sparkling in the morning dew was the most magical sight I had ever seen. It seemed the whole neighborhood was covered in ripples of purple flower glitter. The purple fairy flutes of Henbit gathered in a child’s hand makes for the most beautiful and magical of the bouquets. Of course, shortly after this time everyone started grass cutting for the season. While short lived, that brief glimpse of magic was all I needed to make my heart sing for years to come.

Many moons, suns, stars, and winds later….enough for 40 years of Life to learn and experience….I parked my vehicle in a patient’s driveway in Taylorsville, North Carolina early Spring in the year 2022. I was working as an Occupational Therapy Clinician in the Home Health setting. I was weary to say the least, I always had a heart for helping but after spending your Spirit for years in modern medicine systems the weight takes its toll on a Soul.

As I sit in my car and continue to stall by endlessly checking my notes and emails….eager to end my day and go Home, a purple glitter catches my eye. There they were. A patch of bright, happy, little purple faces of sparkling Henbits singing to me from the uncut yard of my patient’s house. All these years later I still knew those faces. All of these years later I still knew that magic. I gathered a bouquet with the same childlike joy in my heart that I had before except this time…..my life was forever changed. For I was in a time in my Life when I understood the call of not only building a relationship with the plants…..but learning their Stories.

Henbit welcomed me Home again. She told me not only her Story but led me to the Stories of all the Plants…..and I haven’t been the same since.

For some reason when Herbalists talk about plant medicine everyone assumes that we don’t utilize Allopathic methods…at all. Let’s not get it twisted. There’s a difference between questioning the integrity of a system that profits off of you being sick and questioning specific methods/interventions….and not using Allopathic medicine ever. Herbs are beautiful…but they can’t magically fix bad habits, poor diet with little to no natural food, too much alcohol, no exercise/movement, and they definitely aren’t going to save your Life in the event of a serious medical emergency.

The point is….Herbs are ONE intervention in a world full of many. So that we have MORE options to support Wellness and Quality of Life.

I am ALWAYS going to choose herbs for my muscle spasms and back pain, colds, flus, allergies, heart break, cardiac strengthening, sleep support, anxiety relief, grief, headaches, and hormone balancing.

The point is….you don’t HAVE to Outsource your health for every little thing. Take care of it and keep it moving.
