Breast cancer is frequently seen as a "women's disease." Yet every year, around 39,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide.

For many men, the challenge is not only the diagnosis itself, but also the feeling of isolation that can come with it. When awareness campaigns, support groups, and public conversations and also treatment pathways are largely designed with women in mind, some men may struggle to recognise symptoms, seek help, or find spaces where they feel represented.

No one should feel that a disease is "not meant" to happen to them.

Breaking down stereotypes around health helps everyone. Greater awareness can lead to earlier diagnosis, better support, and a reminder that breast cancer does not discriminate by gender.

This Men's Health Week, let's make room for every voice affected by breast cancer.

💗 On 28 May, we were honoured to welcome Professor Giuseppe F. Catanuto for an insightful roundtable on breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery.

Together with almost 30 breast cancer advocates, we explored reconstruction options (including “going flat”), benefits and risks, access to optimal care in specialized centers with MDT, and the importance of shared decision-making.

One key message resonated throughout the discussion: breast reconstruction is not a single procedure, but a journey often consisting of a number of procedures, and surgical outcomes must be measured also in terms of quality of life.

As Professor Catanuto reminded us:
💬 “There is no perfect reconstruction. There is only the reconstruction that best matches a woman’s body, values and life.”

Thank you to Professor Catanuto and to all the advocates who shared their perspectives and helped make this conversation so meaningful.

Today is 🌍🚭

Lung cancer in particular, but also many other cancers — including breast cancer — are linked to to***co use and abuse.
💨 And va**ng isn’t harmless either: e-cigarettes can still expose users to ni****ne and other potentially harmful substances.

Every patient deserves a life free from the pain of to***co- and va**ng-related disease. Every citizen deserves clear information about the harms linked to to***co use.

is a reminder that reducing the burden of cancer requires sustained political commitment, greater public awareness, and stronger collaboration across borders.

At Europa Donna, this commitment goes far beyond one week of awareness. Through initiatives such as and our ongoing advocacy work at European level (including dialogue with EU institutions and the European Parliament) we continue to push for better breast health policies and equal access to care across Europe.

This year, we are placing a special focus on breast health awareness and breast cancer screening, because early detection remains one of the most effective tools to reduce breast cancer mortality.

Breast cancer screening saves lives. Organised screening programmes can reduce breast cancer mortality by around one third, yet participation rates across Europe remain deeply unequal. In some countries, too many women are still being diagnosed too late.

That is why we continue to raise awareness: because awareness leads to action, and action leads to change.

This , we reaffirm the right of every woman in Europe:
🩷 To be informed
🩷 To access breast cancer screening
🩷 To receive timely, high-quality care

📣 Clinical Trials Day is today, a reminder of how essential research is in improving and saving the lives of people affected by breast cancer.

At Europa Donna, we strongly believe that clinical trials and research must be built with patients, not just for them. That is why we only take part in projects where patients are involved as co-creators from the very beginning.

We are currently engaged in a wide range of European research initiatives focused on improving treatment, reducing overtreatment, and above all protecting quality of life.
Among them:
🔹 DEFINITIVE – exploring how using diagnostic testing can guide personalised treatment decisions in early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer, aiming to maintain survival outcomes while improving quality of life and reducing unnecessary treatment burden.
🔹 Path4Young – exploring whether some premenopausal women with high-risk, hormone-receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer can safely reduce additional chemotherapy while preserving effectiveness and long-term wellbeing.

These are just a few examples of the research projects we are involved in, part of a much broader commitment to ensuring that patient perspectives are fully integrated into science and innovation.
Because research only makes real progress when it listens to those who live the experience.

Patients are not an afterthought. They are essential to progress. 💙

📣 Our 2026 MBC Advocacy Webinar on Friday, 15 May brought together around 60 passionate advocates from across Europe for a meaningful day dedicated to MBC.

✨ The morning opened with insightful presentations from Dr. Fatima Cardoso and Dr. Dario Trapani. Dr. Cardoso began with a clear and accessible introduction to the basics of MBC — helping set a strong foundation of shared understanding of the science, disease progression, and treatment landscape. Both speakers then explored the latest advances in MBC research, treatment, and care.
Discussions around the ABC Global Charter 2.0 also highlighted a strong focus on legal rights and employment after a MBC diagnosis, underlining the importance of workplace protection, financial security, and equitable access to care alongside medical treatment.

🤝 In the afternoon, Cynthia Cravo, Paola Cornero, and Carla S. Whitbread led the inspiring session “Still Me!”, followed by interactive workshops focused on communication after a metastatic diagnosis. Together, participants explored courageous conversations with family and friends, children and teenagers, employers, and colleagues, creating a safe space for honest exchanges, shared experiences, and practical advice.

💫 A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers, facilitators, patient advocates, and participants for making this webinar such an insightful and inspiring experience. Together, we continue to ensure that science and patient voices move forward hand in hand. 💙

Today, we stand with all women affected by ovarian cancer 🎗️

At Europa Donna, we are committed to informing and supporting all European women when it comes to breast and gynecological cancers.

Raising awareness and recognising risks early can save lives.

Knowing more about genetic factors like BRCA mutations can help women make informed choices about prevention, screening, and treatment.
No woman should face barriers to clear information, early diagnosis, or quality care, wherever she lives.

Together, we’ll keep pushing for more awareness, more research, and better outcomes for every woman.

This International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day, we want to draw attention to all people who are trying to balance their job and their health after a breast cancer diagnosis.

In Europe, an estimated 20% of breast cancer cases affect women under 50 and 33% affect women under 64, so many women are hit by the disease in the prime of their professional career.

A diagnosis should never mean losing your place in society or your professional identity. Every person has the right to be fully reintegrated, free from stigma and discrimination and supported in returning to work and a sense of normality.

At Europa Donna, we advocate for the right of breast cancer patients to maintain and return to work, with dignity, protection and understanding.
