I don’t want happiness to be something l’m always almost getting to.

Waiting for work to calm down.
For the list to be finished.
For the weekend.
For the next holiday.
For life to feel a little less bloody busy.

Walking through the Pacific Rim national park today, I had one of those moments where I just thought - THIS is it. 🌲🌲🌲

Not the thing before the next thing.

THIS moment right now.

Walking through this incredible place, feeling SO completely alive - with this body that is well enough and strong enough to be here and do this.

Don’t get wrong - I still want more from life.

But I’m getting much better at realising that ‘more’ isn’t always somewhere up ahead.

Sometimes you’re standing right in the middle of it 📍🩷

I teach this stuff.
I know this stuff.
And I still fell for it 😂

I teach that weight fluctuates daily - even throughout the day, Bridget Jones style.

I know a heavy strength session can skew it even further.

And yet I STILL looked down at those bloody scales and felt disappointed that my efforts weren’t showing.

Two seconds later I was having a word with myself 😂

Because five weeks later?
About 2 - 3lbs down. Waist back.

No drastic diet. No cutting carbs. No massive weight loss. Good because i don’t want to be losing any of my hard earned muscle.
Just a little less of the good stuff, fewer invisible mouthfuls and carrying on lifting heavy.

Sometimes nothing seems to happen… until suddenly it does. 💛

Some trips feel like they require a degree in packing.

3 weeks. 3 completely different microclimates. And apparently one kitbag.

I’ve never been very good at anything capsuley. I’m more of a ‘but what if I need this?’ packer.

So packing for city days in Vancouver, wild and wet on the Pacific Rim, Indian summers on Quadra island AND five days kayaking the Inside Passage is testing me 😂

I’m trying very hard not to take my entire wardrobe.

Wish me luck 🇨🇦

A few of you have mentioned to me recently that you’re struggling to lose those last few pounds.

So this one’s for you.

Here’s what I’d do ⬇️

✅ Eat 3 proper meals. Protein, plenty of colour, fibre AND carbs. Head hunger off at the pass rather than spending all day ‘being good’ or barely eating and wondering why you’re rummaging through the cupboards at 9pm.
✅ Keep lifting heavy. The goal is to lose fat, not the muscle you’ve worked bloody hard to build.
✅ Walk more. Nothing ridiculous. Not 20,000 steps! Just move a bit more than you do now. It really does add up.
✅ Look at what’s crept in. A handful here, a bite there, drinks, the healthy extras. You don’t need to ban any of it - just notice it.
✅. Don’t make your social life the price of losing 5lb. Eat out. Have pudding. Go away. Enjoy your life. You’re looking for a small deficit, not a miserable one.

And probably the most important bit…

Be SUPER consistent ✅✅✅

Results have an annoying habit of turning up the day after you’ve sacked the whole thing off because you decided it wasn’t working.

Give the boring stuff enough time to work.

No detox. No Monday restart. No misery.

Small changes. Repeated for longer than you think. 🩷💕

So girls. You think you’ve got it covered and all the boxes ticked. Infact I was thinking my skeleton should be pretty smug.

I lift weights.
I eat all the bone bits.
I take vitamin D.

Then I learnt just HOW much impact matters. It’s not simply a little add-on to throw in the workout from time to time.

So now I’m the woman who skips and jumps waiting for the kettle to boil… and is packing a skipping rope for Canada 😂 No joke - it’s in my packing pile 😉

It doesn’t have to be complicated or heroic. And it’s not for everyone (always check if suitable for you). A few jumps, hops or skips can all add a different type of stimulus that bones respond to.

Sometimes it’s the smallest change that makes you rethink everything.

💕💕 Save this one for your future self.

Didn’t think a slaw could ruin all other slaws for me… but here we are 😂

🍏 PEANUT, GINGER + APPLE SLAW

Crunchy, fresh, a little sweet, a little salty and ALL about that peanut dressing. OMG the dressing.

SAVE this one - recipe below 👇

½ white cabbage, finely shredded
2 carrots, grated
3 spring onions, sliced
1 apple, julienned or grated

For that dressing:
3 tbsp smooth peanut butter
2 tbsp soy sauce
Juice of 1 lime
1 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp sesame oil
2 tsp fresh ginger, grated
1 garlic clove, crushed
2 tbsp warm water, to loosen

Plus 1 tbsp black sesame seeds to finish. Or crushed peanuts. Full disclosure ➡️ I used both 😂

Chuck all the dressing ingredients into a jar and give it a really good shake. Pour over the slaw, toss everything together and finish with the black sesame seeds.

Ridiculously good 👌💕🩷

Save it for the next time your dinner needs a bit of crunch.

They say we soften with age… 😉
Maybe I have.

I still believe gut health is one of the biggest hitters in health.
I still believe in giving your liver plenty of love.
And strength training? Probably the biggest midlife game changer of all.

And yes, I probably think about health more than the average person 😂

But my approach in midlife has definitely softened.

Less chasing the 1%.
Less worrying about getting everything perfectly right.
More getting ridiculously good at the basics.

Eat well. Lift heavy things. Sleep. Get outside. Have fun.

And maybe stop making the whole bloody thing so complicated 🩷

Everyone’s talking about the things that are worth the money…

These are mine.

Every year we’re told August doesn’t count.

Eat and drink ‘everything.’
Start again in September.

That’s never really made sense to me.

I don’t want to spend summer worrying about food or not being able to enjoy a glass of ice cold wine.
But I don’t want to spend it feeling rubbish either.

I want enough energy to swim in the sea, lift weights, eat good food and make the most of every bit of summer.

That’s me version of happy and healthy 🩷 ☀️ 🩷

If I had my life again, I’d do every single one of these 🩷What’s on your list?
