Our Legacy
Half a century of service

Palestine Hospital is considered part of Jordan’s national heritage. Built in the 1950’s, it is currently one of the longest serving Jordanian private hospital. The name of its founder, Dr. Sami Khoury, as the first Jordanian surgeon to hold the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, is closely associated with the development of medicine in

the region. Compassion, professional passion and Confucius’ famous saying, “it is better to light a small candle than curse the darkness” drove Dr. Sami to establish Palestine Hospital. He was commissioned and supported by the late King Hussein who saw the need for developing medical services in Amman when he personally needed Dr. Sami’s services in 1957. Within a short time of its opening under Royal Patronage in June 22, 1960, Palestine Hospital became an important and successful catalyst, playing a major role in the development of medicine in the region. It has been witness to many medical breakthroughs as well as major historical events since that time HM King Abdulla II was born in room 106 on January 30, 1962. It has always maintained the highest of medical, professional and ethical standards all through the years of its service. This tenacious tradition of devotion, loyalty and generous service entrenched in 1960, continues to be the central philosophy and spirit of the hospital today. In its early days, Palestine Hospital was a centre for chest and heart surgery and ever since its opening has had a strong focus in Neurology and Neurosurgery. Amongst many other firsts, it was the place where the highly intricate stereotactic neurosurgery was introduced into the region in 1990. Palestine Hospital currently functions as a general hospital with a wide range of services, with a special emphasis on surgery, specifically laparoscopic and spinal surgery as well as orthopedics and ENT. A new approach

Convinced of the need for a new institutional model in the health care sector in Jordan, Dr. Nasri Khoury who became General Director of Palestine Hospital in the mid-1980s was instrumental in developing the not-for-profit (NfP) concept in the country. He registered the hospital as the first such medical facility in Jordan at the beginning of 1999. As a not-for-profit institution operating under the direction of a Board of Trustees and a Board of Directors, Palestine Hospital seeks profit but rather than distributing this profit to shareholders, the Hospital utilizes it for institutional development, academic advancement. The Hospital where everybody knows your name

The strong commitment to social responsibility combined with the hospital’s credibility and reputation for providing personalized and highly professional care, as well as its experienced and long-serving staff gives Palestine Hospital a unique and unequalled humane quality. It is renowned for the way patients receive their treatment, from the moment they enter the hospital to the day they leave. All along the chain, patients are given the attention they need as well as the professional knowledge and skills they require. What the hospital values most is that it enjoys the full trust of the community it serves. A commitment to the future

Many a patient needing medical care is disturbed by the fact that medicine has become a cold faced industry. To those, Palestine Hospital would be the preferred destination where they would find excellent medical and nursing care in a family atmosphere with personalized care. The limited number of beds and the hospital’s commitment to its established tradition and strong heritage enables it to provide the special treatment it delivers. It has thus adopted a plan to modernize the structure by increasing space allocation to service areas without increasing bed capacity. The first phase of this plan was completed in early 2009.
