A New Spatial Narrative
Grounded in LIVONI's philosophy of "furniture that shapes space" and Matsuyama's
artistic practice of "reinterpreting space through light and abstraction," this project
presents a new spatial narrative. The chair is no longer merely a functional object, but
is rediscovered as an entity that generates and defines space. Matsuyama's works
dissolve the boundary between painting and environment, transforming space itself
into a sensory experience.
SHIN-ON: Light, Space & Resonance
At the heart of the installation lies "SHIN-ON," a concept proposed by Matsuyama
evoking the resonance of light, space, and inner perception. Through layers of
accumulated pigment and subtle chromatic shifts, the works absorb and reflect light,
conjuring the passage of time and the presence of air. The paintings extend beyond
the canvas frame, functioning as immersive environments that engage both body and
perception ? in deep harmony with the Italian aesthetic sensibility that prizes light,
architecture, and material.
A Fusion of Tradition and Contemporary Expression
For over 130 years, LIVONI has embodied Italian craftsmanship, blending traditional
woodworking techniques with contemporary design. This project extends that legacy
beyond the product itself, positioning the brand within a broader cultural and artistic
context. By uniting Matsuyama's spatial art with LIVONI furniture, the installation offers
a new perspective: furniture and art as co-creators of spatial experience.
About Shuhei Matsuyama
Shuhei Matsuyama is a contemporary artist and painter of
Japanese origin. Based in Milan since the late 1970s, he has been
active on the international stage for over forty years. Under the
concept "SHIN-ON," he expresses the vibration of light, layers of
air, and the passage of time through abstract forms. In Europe he
is celebrated as an artist of "inner landscapes."
