Overtired babies don’t sleep better. They sleep worse.
It can feel logical to keep a baby awake a little longer, hoping they’ll be “more tired” and sleep better.
But when a baby stays awake past their natural window, their body shifts into stress mode.
Cortisol rises, the nervous system becomes alert.
And instead of settling easily, sleep becomes harder.
This is when you might see:
more resistance at bedtime
short naps
frequent night wakings
More tired doesn’t mean better sleep.
It often means the opposite.
Gentle timing makes a big difference.
