Birth is the work of nourishing and nurturing and tenderness. ♥️
•
Like so many of us, I’ve felt lost lately. Wondering what to do. How to make any sort of meaningful change in a world that feels so unbearably broken.
But eventually, I always come back to birth. Back to this sacred work.
Birth is the work of building a new future.
Birth is the work of healing.
Birth is the work of holding families and holding space.
Birth is the work of nourishing and nurturing and tenderness.
Birth is the work of community building.
And of course, we must do the work. We must heal ourselves, our families, our wounds. We must look at the ways we cause harm and uphold dangerous systems and throw ourselves into uprooting the violence that runs so deeply through our society. We must do the work to heal our hearts before we bring our gifts to the communities.
But I believe in us. In this community. I believe in the mamas and the midwives leading the way forward.
So, through the tears, with a heavy heart, clinging to hope- I get t back to it. Painting babies and bellies and breast and birthing bodies and pouring my love onto paper. Doing the only thing I know to do when it feels dark. Turning back to birth, where it all begins, and putting my faith in our ability to heal this broken world.
