FOOD ALLERGY OR FOOD INTOLERANCE? THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!
Ever heard someone say, โThat food doesn't agree with meโ?
They might be describing an allergyโor an intolerance. But the two are different.
๐ฅ FOOD ALLERGY: The immune system reacts to a particular food. Reactions can include hives, swelling, vomiting or breathing difficulties.
๐ฅ FOOD INTOLERANCE: The body has difficulty digesting or processing a food or one of its components. Symptoms may include bloating, gas or abdominal discomfort.
โ ๏ธ Important: food allergies can be life-threatening. Swelling of the tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, or collapse after eating may indicate a severe allergic reaction. Seek emergency help immediately.
Don't diagnose yourself based on one symptom. A healthcare professional can help assess recurring reactions and guide you on what to do next.
Knowing the difference can help you make safer food choices. ๐
