ZUWI AFYA CBO was proud to participate in the JANAM Experience a transformative gathering that united advocates, creatives, healthcare champions and community leaders to advance sickle cell awareness and holistic wellbeing. Together with My warrior, my pride initiative , Amazon Theatrix Ensemble, Ombere Walter and JANAM we engaged in powerful conversations on advocacy, creativity and youth empowerment. The experience reinforced the value of storytelling, collaboration and collective action in creating inclusive spaces where sickle cell warriors are seen, heard and celebrated. We remain committed to championing hope, dignity and lasting community impact.

ZUWI AFYA CBO was honored to facilitate a mental health session for the talented creatives of Filamujuani creating a safe space for meaningful conversations on wellness. Our CEO led an insightful discussion on sickle cell disease explaining its causes, management and the importance of compassionate care. With support from Kenya Medical Research Institute participants also explored HIV and sexual and reproductive health while Shofco Kisumu delivered practical financial literacy lessons to empower creatives beyond their craft. We proved that informed creatives build stronger and healthier communities.

On 20th June 2026 following the International Sickle Cell Day commemorations ZUWI AFYA CBO in partnership with Magarini Environment and Marine Conservations conducted a free medical camp in Mambrui. The outreach reached approximately 600 community members providing free medication, medical consultations, health education and psychosocial counseling for individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease. The initiative strengthened community awareness, encouraged early health-seeking behavior and reinforced the importance of collaborative action in improving health outcomes. We remain committed to building healthier more resilient communities through compassionate, accessible and inclusive healthcare services.

On 19th June 2026 in commemoration of International Sickle Cell Day ZUWI AFYA CBO through the Office of Senator Hon. Stewart Madzayo,EGH,MP. successfully conducted a free medical camp in Mtwapa, Kilifi. Approximately 650 community members benefited from free healthcare services, including cervical cancer screening, HIV testing and counseling, sickle cell screening, medical consultations, free medication and a lifesaving blood donation drive. The outreach strengthened access to quality healthcare, promoted early diagnosis and raised awareness on sickle cell disease while fostering a healthier more informed community. Together we continue taking small steps that create a lasting impact.

On 8th May 2026, Zuwi Afya CBO was honored to join a planning meeting at Mtwapa Sub-County Hospital in preparation for International Sickle Cell Day 2026.
We are deeply grateful to Senator Hon. Madzayo for the invitation and for recognizing the work Zuwi Afya CBO continues to do in advocating for and supporting sickle cell warriors. With Kilifi County carrying a heavy burden of sickle cell disease, this collaboration reflects a shared commitment to raising awareness, strengthening support and giving hope to affected families.
Together, we are turning compassion into action and building a future where every sickle cell warrior is seen, heard and empowered.

Zuwi Afya CBO was honored to be one of the partners in the successful Caregiver Empowerment, Neurodevelopment Screening, Mental Health Awareness and Milestone Celebration Workshop held from 28th–30th May 2026.
The three inspiring days brought together caregivers, parents, healthcare professionals and community stakeholders from across Kisumu County to promote inclusion, strengthen caregiver support, raise mental health awareness and champion the rights and dignity of children and individuals living with disabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Holistic Nurturing Health Hub (HNH Hub) for their unwavering commitment to transforming lives and to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya – Lake Diocese, alongside all partner organizations, volunteers, healthcare professionals, community leaders, caregivers and families whose collaboration made this initiative a success.

Hope grows when hearts unite.

On 24th April 2026, Zuwi Afya CBO proudly joined Universal Lighthouse CBO in a special medical camp celebrating the strength and resilience of amputees and children with mobility challenges.
Beyond conducting free sickle cell disease screening, we empowered families with knowledge on how sickle cell disease is inherited and shared our commitment to advocating for, supporting and improving the lives of sickle cell warriors.
Every conversation sparked awareness. Every screening offered hope. Every partnership strengthened our mission to build healthier, more inclusive communities where no one is left behind.

Did you know that sickle cell can be detected early which can help families prevent severe health complications?
On 18th April 2026, ZUWI AFYA CBO in partnership with Zuwis Pharmacy attended a medical camp at Kasuna Primary School, Ahero, Nyando Sub-County, hosted by aspiring MP Hon. Tony Abullo and graced by Hon. James Orengo. We offered free sickle cell screening, blood sugar tests, BP checks and pharmaceutical services including free drugs. Over 250 individuals received medical assistance as we strongly advocated for household sickle cell screening and better community health awareness.

On 15th April 2026 ZUWI AFYA CBO attended the Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority sensitization meeting at Mama Grace Onyango Social Center. PBORA is the government body mandated to register, regulate and support all non-profit organizations in Kenya under the Public Benefit Organizations (PBO) Act, 2013. We gained valuable insights on compliance, governance structures and constitutional alignment. All organizations must align with the PBO Act by May 13th, 2026. This is a crucial step toward transparency, accountability and stronger community impact.

ZUWI AFYA CBO had a powerful engagement with the Senator of Kilifi County, Hon. Stewart Madzayo,EGH,MP. alongside the First Lady and his office team. We unpacked the reality of sickle cell which is high burdening yet limited access to care and treatment across Kilifi. We presented bold interventions to strengthen support for warriors in both Kisumu and Kilifi. The Senator asked insightful questions and our CEO shared deep expertise which sparked a meaningful exchange. He was intrigued and impressed encouraging us to scale our impact. We also discussed the government’s role and he pledged his full support.

We thank the Hon. Stewart Madzayo,EGH,MP., the first lady and his team for hosting us and for Kids for amplifying our voice.
