So, what exactly is dementia?

Dementia is not one specific disease.
It is a general term used to describe a group of symptoms caused by changes or damage to the brain that can affect a person's:
🧠 Memory
🗣️ Communication and language
🧩 Thinking and reasoning
🧭 Orientation and ability to navigate
👩🏾‍🍳 Ability to perform familiar activities
❤️ Mood and behaviour
🤝 Ability to manage everyday life independently
One of the most common causes of dementia is Alzheimer's disease, but there are other causes, including vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies and frontotemporal dementia.

But here is the part I want every family to remember:
The person is still there.Dementia may take away some memories.It may make communication difficult.It may change behaviour.It may eventually affect a person's ability to recognize even the people they love.

But the person still deserves to be treated as a person.
They still deserve patience.
They still deserve respect.
They still deserve to be included.
They still deserve to be spoken to , not spoken about.

Caring for a person with Dementia Requires a lot of patience ,Kindness and Love 🙏🙏🙏🙏
