What does the future of global health look like when young people are not just participants—but decision-makers? 🌍✨
Last week at the World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026 held at United Nations Office at Nairobi, Youth4Afya Coalition proudly joined global leaders, policymakers, and innovators in shaping conversations on the future of health systems.
With 16 Health Ministers and over 400 speakers, the whole summit was phenomenal. The event was centred under the theme: Reimagining Africa’s Health Systems: Innovation, Integration and Interdependence.
Key discussions oriented on:
🔹 Strengthening health systems resilience in the face of emerging global threats
🔹 Advancing Universal Health Coverage and equitable access to care
🔹 Leveraging digital health and innovation for better service delivery
🔹 Climate change and its growing impact on health
But beyond the panels and plenaries, one thing stood out—youth voices were not sidelined; they were amplified.
Through active participation in dialogues, policy spaces, and cross-sector engagements, young people: 💡 Contributed fresh, community-driven perspectives
💡 Challenged existing systems with innovative thinking
💡 Advocated for inclusive, youth-responsive health policies
At Youth4Afya, we believe meaningful youth engagement is not symbolic—it is essential.
The future of health is being shaped NOW, and young people are right at the table. 🚀

*Let’s unpack Policy…*
Have you ever wondered how policies in our country are actually made?
Who shapes them?
And as a young professional, how can you ensure your voice is heard?
If you’ve asked yourself any of these questions, you’re not alone.

23 young healthcare professionals with those questions came together under Youth 4 Afya, in collaboration with Amref Health Africa under the Africa Health Collaborative, in partnership with The Mastercard, for a 3-day policy-making workshop led by experts from the Ministry of Health.
What followed?
Not just learning, but a shift.
From curiosity to clarity.
From passion to informed action.
These young professionals are now stepping boldly into the policy space, engaging in conversations, taking up leadership, and reimagining what healthcare (and healthcare internships) can and should look like in Kenya 🇰🇪✨
Each walked away with new insights, renewed confidence, and a stronger voice for advocacy.
💬 In this series, we’re sharing one key takeaway from each of them.
Because the future of healthcare policy must include the voices of young professionals shaping the system from within.

What an incredible way to wrap up an intense week of growth! We’ve officially crossed the finish line of our Policy and Communications workshop and the momentum is real. 🚀

A huge thank you to the Ministry of Health for facilitating the policy workshop. From deconstructing the building blocks of policy to mastering the art of the Memorandum, we are now fully equipped to advocate for change. Our biggest takeaway? Learning exactly how to draft a Memorandum of Inclusion to ensure our voices are woven into the very fabric of internship policies. 📜✍️

On the communications front, we leveled up our branding game, sharpened our article-writing skills, and successfully drafted our first Comms Strategic Plan. We aren’t just learning; we are building the blueprint for a more inclusive future in health advocacy.

The week may be ending, but the work is just beginning. Stay tuned! 🌍✨
