Hiring a virtual assistant for your practice sounds great, until you start wondering whether your patient data is safe.
It's a fair question. And it's one every practice owner should be asking before bringing on remote support.
Here's what HIPAA compliance actually means in practice:
1. Your VA understands what counts as protected health information (PHI)
A compliant VA knows what can and can't be shared, stored, or discussed carelessly.
2. Your VA handles data with intention
That means secure communication channels, no unauthorised access, and patient information treated with the same care inside the inbox as it would be in the clinic.
3. Your VA is trained, not just aware
There's a difference between knowing HIPAA exists and having completed formal compliance training. One protects your practice and the other leaves it exposed.
I hold HIPAA compliance certification, so when you bring me into your practice, you're not taking a risk. You're adding a layer of protection.
Patient trust is everything in healthcare. Your VA should reflect that.
