Tiny tummy. Powerful milk. Golden protection :)

Colostrum may come in small amounts, but it is perfectly designed for your newborn’s tiny stomach and early needs.

Rich in protective factors and easy to digest, this first milk helps babies pass meconium and supports the elimination of excess bilirubin ,one of the reasons early and frequent breastfeeding matters so much in the first days of life.

Sometimes mothers worry that “there isn’t enough milk” in the beginning, yet colostrum is concentrated, powerful, and biologically designed for this stage.

Your body knows.
Your milk has purpose.
Your breastfeeding journey matters

45 years ago, the World Health Assembly adopted the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes a landmark commitment to protect families from unethical marketing practices that interfere with breastfeeding.

Today, as we mark 45 years of the Code, we celebrate not just a policy, but a continued global call to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding through accurate, evidence-based information and ethical infant feeding practices.

Breastfeeding is a public health issue, a human rights issue, and a foundation for lifelong health for both mother and child.

The Code still matters.
Because mothers deserve support not pressure.
Because families deserve truthful information not marketing disguised as care.
Because every baby deserves the best possible start in life.

As breastfeeding advocates in Kenya and beyond, we recommit to creating environments where mothers can breastfeed with dignity, protection, and support.

What a beautiful conversation this turned out to be :)

To every mother who joined us for our Breastfeeding & Work webinar thank you.

Thank you for showing up with your questions, your stories, your vulnerability, and your desire to keep learning and growing through motherhood.

One thing became very clear during this conversation:
Working mothers do not need more pressure.
They need support.
Practical support. Workplace support. Community support. Evidence-based support.

Thank you to our incredible speakers and moderator for holding such a warm, honest, and empowering space for mothers navigating one of the biggest transitions in their breastfeeding journey.

And thank you to the KAB community for continuing to show up for mothers with compassion, expertise, and heart

This conversation does not end here.

In just 2 days… we have this conversation.

As a pediatrician and lactation educator, I meet mothers at one of the most delicate transitions in early motherhood—
returning to work while still nurturing a breastfeeding journey.

And here’s what I want you to know:
👉 Your milk supply is not “lost” because you’re going back to work
👉 Your body is capable of adapting—with the right support
👉 Your baby can continue to thrive—with a well-structured plan
But this doesn’t happen by chance.

It requires:
• Understanding how milk production works
• Protecting your supply through expression and feeding patterns
• Nourishing yourself—physically and emotionally
• Creating a realistic, sustainable routine
Because breastfeeding success in the workplace is not about doing more—
it’s about doing the right things, consistently.
This Thursday, we’ll walk through what this looks like in real life.
Practical. Evidence-based. Honest.

💬 If you’re preparing to go back to work, what’s your biggest worry right now?

New week. New transitions. Same questions.

For many mothers, this is the season where maternity leave ends and a new rhythm begins.

one that asks you to show up at work… while still showing up fully for your baby.

In our line of work, we see this every day:
Mothers trying to hold onto breastfeeding
while navigating schedules, expectations, and environments that were never designed with them in mind.

Let’s be clear—
breastfeeding and work are not opposing forces.
But they do require planning, support, and informed decisions.
Because success at this stage is not about perfection
it’s about:

• understanding your body and your supply
• knowing your rights and your options
• creating sustainable feeding plans
• having the right support systems in place
And most importantly—
having the confidence to advocate for yourself and your baby.

This Thursday, we’re having an honest, practical conversation about what this actually looks like.
No pressure. No unrealistic expectations.
Just evidence-based guidance and real-life strategies.

Today, as we mark Labour Day, we celebrate the workforce.

But we must also ask:
Who is supporting the working mother?
Because returning to work while breastfeeding is not a small adjustment.

it is a daily negotiation between:
• productivity and physiology
• policy and reality
• survival and support

Kenya has made progress.
But for many mothers, the gap between policy and practice is still real.

➡️ Lactation spaces are missing
➡️ Time to express is not protected
➡️ Support systems are inconsistent

And yet—mothers continue.
They show up.
They work.
They nourish.
That is labour. That is work.

At KAB, we believe:
Supporting breastfeeding mothers is not a favour—
it is a workplace responsibility.
