It is with deep sadness that World Reggae Promotion joins the global reggae community in mourning the passing of Errol "Barkwood" Brown, the legendary lead vocalist and founding member of the iconic British roots reggae band Black Roots.
Born in Jamaica and later settling in Bristol, England, Errol Brown became one of the most respected voices in UK roots reggae. Through Black Roots, he delivered powerful messages of unity, justice, African consciousness, and social awareness, earning the band worldwide respect for its authentic roots reggae sound.
For more than four decades, Black Roots remained a pillar of conscious reggae, touring internationally and inspiring generations with music that uplifted and educated. Errol's unmistakable voice and unwavering commitment to the message of reggae made him one of the genre's true ambassadors.
