A Strategic Visit to Hon. Harold Kipchumba: Advancing Disability Care, Youth Jobs and Global Opportunities
Rafa Institute of Disability Care Studies officials were honoured to pay an official visit to Hon. Harold Kimuge Kipchumba, nominated Member of Parliament representing persons with disabilities in Kenya at his office in Bunge Towers, Nairobi.
Hon. Kipchumba is not only a national leader — he is a respected disability rights advocate, a polio survivor, and a long-serving voice for inclusion. His own journey gives him a deep, personal understanding of the real challenges faced by persons with disabilities, families, caregivers, schools, and communities across Kenya.
During our engagement, we discussed Rafa Institute’s work in Special Needs Care training, its positive impact in society, and the urgent need to equip more Kenyan youth with practical, professional care skills that can create opportunities both locally and internationally. Rafa students have all through gotten many great opportunities to work abroad, the demand for such is still high.
We also shared our new Autism Care Support Specialist Course, an online training program designed to equip teachers, parents, caregivers, and families of children with autism with the right knowledge to support care, communication, behaviour management, dignity, inclusion, and early intervention.
Autism care is not just about sympathy — it requires knowledge. With the right training, families can understand their children better, teachers can support learners more effectively, and caregivers can help unlock potential that is often hidden simply because society lacks the right care skills.
We further discussed how Kenya can benefit greatly if special needs caregivers are deliberately trained, certified, and supported for absorption into international markets. Across the world, there is a critical shortage of caregivers who understand conditions such as Autism, developmental delays, disability care, and elderly care. This presents a powerful opportunity for Kenya to train young people in this unique niche and position them for dignified jobs at home and abroad.
Rafa Institute believes that disability care training is not only a social service — it is also a serious youth employment pathway, a family support system, and a national development opportunity.
We are encouraged by Hon. Harold Kipchumba’s attention to this important conversation. As a leader who has personally experienced and championed disability inclusion, his engagement affirms the need for Kenya to invest more intentionally in skilled special needs care, caregiver professionalism, and inclusive opportunities for persons with disabilities and the youth.
At Rafa Institute, we remain committed to building a generation of caregivers who serve with skill, compassion, dignity, and global standards.
