The Kenya Medical Association this week held a courtesy call with the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, to engage on pressing matters affecting Kenya’s health sector.

Key issues discussed included:

•⁠ ⁠Ebola outbreak preparedness and Kenya’s national response
•⁠ ⁠Settlement of outstanding SHA/NHIF legacy debt owed to healthcare providers
•⁠ ⁠KMA’s role in the space of healthcare leadership and peer oversight
•⁠ ⁠Reducing duplicate county licensing burdens on registered doctors and medical facilities
•⁠ ⁠Ringfencing to***co, alcohol, and sugar excise taxes to sustainably capitalise the SHA Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund and Public Health
•⁠ ⁠Artificial intelligence in healthcare, including the need for expert review, governance, and learning frameworks for AI tools within digital health systems.

KMA remains committed to constructive engagement with government as a technical partner in strengthening healthcare systems and advancing Universal Health Coverage for all Kenyans.
