Varices: when the problem is not just aesthetic, it's circulatory
Many believe that varicose veins are just a matter of appearance. But when veins look like this (dilated, tortured, marked under the skin) we're facing a progressive disease called chronic vein insufficiency.
What happens is not shallow.
Under normal conditions, the veins of the legs work against gravity to return the precious hematical fluid to the heart. To achieve it, they have internal valves that prevent blood from receding.
When those valves fail:
- The blood stops.
- Pressure inside the vein increases.
- The venous wall is dilating.
- The problem becomes chronic.
What's visible on the skin is only the consequence of a deeper circulatory disorder.
** Symptoms that many people normalize **
- Feeling of heaviness or fatigue in the legs
- Pain or burn after standing for a long time
- Swelling in ankles and calves
- Night cramps
- Itching or discoloration of the skin
Over time, skin can become darker, tougher, and more fragile.
** When the sickness kicks in **
If not treated, real complications may appear:
- Chronic skin inflammation
- Dermatitis por estasis venosa
- Ulcers that take months to heal
- Superficial Thrombosis episodes
- Recurring infections
At this point we are no longer talking about aesthetics, but quality of life and medical risk.
** A frequent mistake **
Thinking that "as long as it doesn't hurt too much, nothing happens."
Venous insufficiency is progressive. The longer it evolves without treatment, the greater the damage to skin and tissue.
** The Good News **
It can be treated early
The approach depends on the degree of the disease and should be individualized. Varicose are not just visible veins they are a sign that the venous system needs attention.
