Understanding Postpartum Bleeding: Tears and Clotting Factors π©Ί (Episode 2)
In the second part of our educational series on Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH), Prof. Anthony Wanyoro explains the final components of the Four T's framework used by medical professionals to diagnose heavy bleeding after delivery.
This episode focuses on:
1. Trauma (Tears): Significant bleeding can occur from lacerations sustained during delivery. These tears most commonly happen around the cervix (the door to the uterus), the external genitalia (va**na and v***a), or, in rare cases, inside the uterus itself.
2. Thrombin (Clotting Disorders): Heavy bleeding can also stem from underlying medical conditions or diseases that prevent a woman's blood from clotting quickly and effectively after childbirth.
Every delivery is unique, which is why having an experienced obstetric team capable of instantly identifying and repairing tears or managing clotting issues is essential for maternal safety.
