🫁 TB Screening Programme for Hard-to-Reach Population Successfully Conducted

On 10 July 2026, the District Chest Clinic – Batticaloa successfully conducted a Tuberculosis (TB) screening programme for a hard-to-reach population at the Elders' Home, Kallady.

During the programme, 20 elderly residents and 7 staff members were screened for TB. The screening aimed to promote early detection of tuberculosis, facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment, and help prevent the spread of TB among vulnerable populations.

This initiative reflects our continued commitment to ensuring that quality TB screening and care reach every segment of the community, especially those at increased risk and with limited access to healthcare services.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the management and staff of the Elders' Home for their valuable support and cooperation in making this programme a success.

📢 TB Awareness Generation Programme Successfully Conducted

The District Chest Clinic - Batticaloa (DCC) successfully conducted a Tuberculosis (TB) Awareness Generation Programme for public and private health sector staff on 06 July 2026 at the DCC Auditorium.

The programme focused on enhancing participants' knowledge of early TB detection, accurate diagnosis, timely referral, and effective treatment, thereby strengthening the capacity of healthcare professionals to provide quality TB care.

We believe this initiative will contribute significantly to improving early TB diagnosis, ensuring prompt treatment initiation, and advancing our collective efforts towards ending TB in our community.

We sincerely thank all the resource persons, participants, and everyone who contributed to the success of this programme.

🏆 A Proud Moment for District Chest Clinic – Batticaloa 🏆

We are extremely happy and proud to announce that the District Chest Clinic – Batticaloa has been recognized as the “Best Performing Team in the Eastern Province for 2025” by the National Programme for Tuberculosis Control and Chest Diseases (NPTCCD).

This remarkable achievement reflects the dedication, commitment, and teamwork of our entire team in strengthening TB control activities and providing better services to the community.

We sincerely extend our heartfelt gratitude to our respected RDHS – Batticaloa, Dr.R.Muraleeswaran for the valuable guidance, leadership, and continuous encouragement throughout our journey.

Our special thanks to the NPTCCD Team – Director, Consultant Chest Physicians, Dr.R.Manmathan (CRP, DCC - Batticaloa) and all officials for their continuous technical guidance and support.

We’re happy to share that we successfully conducted a TST (Mantoux) Training Programme for Base Hospital Nursing Officers in Batticaloa District on 16.05.2026. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

As the next step, we will be issuing Tuberculin injections to Base Hospitals for conducting the Mantoux Test at hospital level.

This initiative will:

1.Reduce travel and waiting time for patients
2.Improve access to timely TB screening services
3.Strengthen TB control efforts within the district

Together, we are working towards better, more patient-friendly TB care in Batticaloa District.

🌍 TB Prevention Starts in the Community!

We successfully conducted a training programme on 11/05/2026 with the participation of RE,SPHID and RSPHNO for Field PHIs and PHMs (Batticaloa District) on Tuberculosis (TB) awareness, prevention, and early identification.

As the saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure.” The active involvement of our dedicated field officers plays a vital role in the early diagnosis and prevention of TB within the community. Their commitment and continuous field-level efforts help to identify presumptive TB patients early and ensure timely treatment and care.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all PHIs and PHMs who participated in this important programme and continue to serve the community with dedication.

📢 Training of the Staff of Prisons on Presumptive TB Identification

The District Chest Clinic – Batticaloa successfully conducted a training programme for staff of prisons in Batticaloa, aimed at strengthening the early identification of presumptive tuberculosis (TB) cases.

This important initiative focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to recognize TB symptoms promptly and ensure timely referral for diagnosis and treatment. Early detection plays a critical role in preventing the spread of TB, particularly in high-risk and confined settings such as prisons and detention centers.

The training programme covered:
✔️ Identification of presumptive TB cases
✔️ Screening and referral mechanisms
✔️ Infection prevention and control practices
✔️ Importance of early diagnosis and continuous treatment

Through this programme, we strive to enhance TB control measures within institutional environments, safeguarding both inmates and staff.
