Josephinenhütte Visionäres Design & feinstes Handwerk: Jedes Glas von Josephinenhütte ist ein mundgeblasenes Unikat

INSPIRED BY THE HISTORICAL ART OF GLASSMAKING

Our role model: the former Josephinenhütte. A Silesian glassworks in the Sudeten Mountains, founded in 1842 by Count Leopold von Schaffgotsch and named after his beloved wife Josephine. The glassmaker Franz Pohl, head of Josephinenhütte, was a gifted creator and artistic pioneer who went beyond the boundaries of what was thought possible in glassmakin

g at the time. Thus, were created glass objects of technical sophistication and absolute beauty, which made Josephinenhütte one of the most significant glassworks in Europe and the New World. A century later, fate put an end to the success story of Josephinenhütte and over the decades the former splendour fell into obscurity. BERLIN 2019 – THE NEW JOSEPHINENHÜTTE
Three friends, fascinated and inspired by the value of true craftmanship, want to bring Josephinenhütte back to life. The dream is to create glasses that are delicate and light, sophisticated and exquisite and which re-establish the exceptional Josephinenhütte standards. The keystone to completing this vision: Kurt Josef Zalto*, possibly the most gifted glass designer of our time. He should, and has, become the creative director of Josephinenhütte. With his design for a lightweight, thin-walled, yet flexible wineglass, the Austrian glassmaker has gone beyond the current concept of a good glass. The glass designer creates the best glasses of their kind, as innovative and astounding as the original Josephinenhütte products. Glasses which open up a new dimension in taste through their visionary construction. Thanks to their characteristic shape and expressive colours, they are a joy to all the senses. Glasses which bring vibrancy to their contents and to those who drink out of them. They not only fulfil their purpose to perfection but are also so striking that they bring people together in conversation. Glasses that are full of life - a delightful sensory experience. In the great tradition of craftsmen, Josephinenhütte has worked together with prominent figures from design, fine arts and contemporary gastronomy to create the new collection. Through an inventive handcrafting process, in combination with diverse complementary concepts, the finest glasses have originated to suit a variety of different needs. An ever-expanding range with one common feature: each Josephinenhütte glass is a unique handblown piece, made by passionate craftsmen. This is the new Josephinenhütte, committed to traditional craftsmanship and absolute sophistication: The World’s finest glasses.

*Kurt Josef Zalto was former co-founder, designer and managing director of Zalto Glasmanufaktur GmbH. Since 2019, he serves as founding partner and chief designer at Josephinenhütte GmbH. Kurt Josef Zalto has no business affiliation with present-day Zalto Glas GmbH since 2009. Josephinenhütte GmbH maintains no economic ties with Zalto Glas GmbH.

SPRING & VINTAGE TASTING 2026
A day dedicated to new vintages, sparkling wine and shared discoveries.

Together, Sekthaus Raumland, BattenfeldSpanier and Kühling-Gillot welcomed guests to Hohen-Sülzen for their annual Spring & Vintage Tasting. Across the cellar, the garden and a series of masterclasses, visitors explored the latest releases, rare wines and the distinctive character of each vintage.

Accompanied by regional culinary partners, thoughtful conversations and a deep connection to origin and craftsmanship, the day offered a closer look at what makes these estates and their wines so compelling.

We were delighted to be part of this special gathering with Josephinenhütte.

BLIND WINE TASTING | EPISODE 1
What happens when you taste the same wine from two different glasses without knowing which is which?

Our participants were convinced they were experiencing two different wines. The conversations quickly moved from subtle differences to confident conclusions, as aromas, texture, and balance seemed to tell two entirely different stories.

Then the blindfolds came off.

The surprise was immediate. Because throughout the entire tasting, the wine had never changed. Only the glass did.

BLIND WINE TASTING
The same wine. Two different glasses. No one knew which one was ours.

No labels. No hints. Just taste.

What followed were honest reactions, unexpected observations and moments of genuine surprise. These are the first moments from the tasting before the full stories and conversations follow in the coming episodes. Stay tuned!

SPOTTED IN — SWAGGER MAGAZINE
The Josephine Wedding Box was selected by SWAGGER Magazine as one of the most elevated wedding gifts for 2026, recognised for bringing together craftsmanship, atmosphere and the ritual of shared moments.

Described as a modern heirloom for couples, the feature highlights the idea of gifting not simply an object, but something designed to be opened, experienced and remembered long after the celebration itself. This is exactly what inspires us: creating glassware that becomes part of meaningful moments over time.

Some people inherit a name. Anton Felix inherited a responsibility – and chose to carry it on his own terms.

For generations, the family made wine on this estate. Until it stopped. What had endured wars, upheaval, and time itself fell silent.

When his family returned after the war, the estate remained — but winemaking did not. Anton was born into its history, not into its continuation. No clear path forward. The first attempt didn’t result in wine, but in vinegar — a beginning he still refers to with a certain pragmatism.

He started anyway. With little more than conviction, and a willingness to learn by doing. What drives him is not nostalgia. It is a quiet, unrelenting belief that great wine can only emerge in harmony with nature.

Today, the estate is farmed biodynamically, guided by patience rather than intervention. No noise, no spectacle. Just soil, time and honesty.

He holds the glass the way he makes decisions: with patience. Without hurry.

A FEW DAYS IN CHAMPAGNE THAT LINGER
Printemps des Champagne is not a traditional fair, but one of the most compelling gatherings in the region. Over several days, winemakers across Reims and beyond showcase just how diverse, precise, and expressive Champagne can be today.

On April 20th, we were proud to be glass partner of Des Pieds et des Vins at Cercle Colbert in Reims. A collective of independent growers, united by a deep commitment to origin, organic vineyard work, site, grape variety, craftsmanship, and the people behind each wine.

In use: our Josephine N° 2. As a universal glass, it revealed the depth and nuance of these Champagnes, giving them the space they need to unfold.

What stayed with us most was the response, from the winemakers themselves, as well as from Champagne professionals from around the world. This is exactly why we create our glasses, not as decoration, but as a stage for origin, precision, and character.

CHAMPAGNE IS NEVER JUST CHAMPAGNE
Together with of Josephinenhütte and our partners at Restaurant Corso in St. Gallen, we hosted a Champagne Masterclass, exploring three key questions that reveal just how layered this region really is and how much the glass shapes what we taste.

In the first flight, the continuous style of a great house met the pure snapshot of a single parcel: Bollinger Special Cuvée alongside Bourgeois-Diaz Les Bien Aimées 2018. Assemblage, consistency, and house style on one side — vintage, origin, and terroir in their clearest expression on the other.

The second flight focused on élevage. Two Champagnes from the same parcel by Petit Clergeot (Chevry), one aged in stainless steel, the other in oak. Same origin, completely different expression.

In the third flight, it was all about oxygen. How does Champagne change depending on how much oxygen the base wine sees during vinification? Agrapart Les 7 Crus (less) met Antoine Grethen Aquilon 2020 (more) — freshness and tension in dialogue with depth and openness.

To consciously highlight the vinous side of these Champagnes, we served them in the Josephine N° 2 and N° 3. Their shapes give structured, textural, and complex Champagnes the space they need, while allowing them to pair precisely with the beautifully composed dishes at Corso.
