Strengthening Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) in small health systems: Identity, training and system integration in Malta
An analysis of PRM development in Malta describes recent reforms, including new undergraduate teaching, evidence-based clinical guidelines, a competency-based national training program, and public-awareness campaigns, which together have improved visibility and attracted new trainees. Significant structural gaps persist, however, including the absence of dedicated PRM departments and a critically small workforce, offering lessons for other small health systems.

🎬 An Inspiring Afternoon at Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital – "it's ok" X "the stroke & brain injury support network"

Yesterday, the Maltese Society of Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine organised a special screening of Ben Galea's documentary "it's ok" at Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital.

A masterpiece filled with inspiring messages, moving scenes and incredible music, the documentary captivated an audience of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals working across the rehabilitation wards and outpatient services at Karin Grech and St Luke's Hospital, together with an incredible group of stroke survivors themselves 🧠❤️

The screening was followed by heartfelt testimonies and meaningful conversations, highlighting the importance of raising greater awareness of the challenges and journeys that stroke and brain injury survivors continue to face long after leaving hospital.

We are delighted that this event lays the foundation for the soon-to-be-launched "it's ok: the stroke & brain injury support network", bringing together survivors, families, carers and healthcare professionals. 🤝

If you would like to learn more or help out, please visit MSPRM.org.mt/ -s-ok or email us at [email protected].

A heartfelt thank you to Ben Galea for sharing this remarkable documentary with us. 🌟 Watch his latest, brilliant interview on TVM by following the link in the first comment
