The saddest moment in the new Nike commercial ahead of the World Cup was this one.

Cole Palmer appears in the Nike short film ahead of the World Cup. It was filmed a few months ago, when his place in the England national team squad for the World Cup was practically guaranteed.

A few weeks ago, Cole Palmer was left out of England’s final squad list, and now this commercial hurts even more. Even the English player did not share the video on his social media. 💔💔

Why is that environmental issues only arise around Indigenous entrepreneurs ? Who are polluting the environment at Dyeratu in Chikwawa and how long have they conducted this whilst govt looked the other side? Should i mention the pollution from chicken farms in Lilongwe, the drink manufacturing industries? The thin plastic manufacturers, the industries paving factory waste into Nasolo river, will they be taken to task?....

So the solution to Malawi’s health crisis is now “double intake”? Interesting. 😄
‎Train more… for what exactly? So they can also graduate and join the growing queue of qualified but unemployed health professionals surviving on locum work, volunteer contracts, and endless promises?
‎The Ministry keeps talking about shortages in hospitals, yet thousands of nurses, clinical officers, lab scientists, pharmacists and other health professionals are sitting at home after graduating. Some have spent years rotating from one temporary locum position to another without meaningful absorption into the system. That contradiction alone should tell us the problem is deeper than student numbers.
‎You cannot keep pouring water into a bucket full of holes and celebrate the amount you’re pouring.
‎Yes, Malawi needs more health workers in the long term. Nobody disputes that. But let’s be honest about the real situation on the ground:
‎Hospitals are understaffed not because there are no trained professionals,
‎but because government recruitment is painfully slow and inconsistent.
‎Many facilities operate with frozen posts.
‎Health workers retire and are never replaced.
‎Others leave the country because the system fails to absorb and support them.
‎So before celebrating “double intake,” maybe the Ministry should first explain: Where will these students work after graduation? Who will pay them? Which hospitals have the capacity for proper internship and mentorship? What happens to the thousands already qualified but unemployed?
‎Because right now it feels like Malawi is producing certificates faster than opportunities.
‎Imagine studying for years in demanding medical programs, surviving tuition struggles, attachment stress, exams, licensing requirements… only to end up unemployed while hospitals cry about staff shortages every day. That’s the painful irony many young health professionals are living through.
‎The country doesn’t only need more training. The country needs:
‎ ✔ Serious recrurecruitment
‎✔ Better funding for the health sector
‎✔ Expansion of posts in hospitals
‎✔ Improved working conditions
‎✔ Retention strategies
‎✔ Timely absorption of graduates
‎Otherwise, doubling intake without doubling employment capacity is just manufacturing frustration at a larger scale.
‎And honestly, I don’t know where some of these statistics come from 😹because on paper there may be a “shortage,” but on the ground there’s also a huge pool of trained professionals waiting for jobs.
‎Absorb the health workers already available first, Build more hospitals. Then talk about doubling numbers.
