Last week I had a traumatic experience while walking the dogs.
🧚♀️
I walk these two almost every evening in the mountains and beach close to where I am living.
🧚♀️
Sometimes other neighbourhood dogs come follow and join us.
🧚♀️
On this afternoon we were with a new dog I was caring for, for the day. He was a little softy, and on a leash.
🧚♀️
We encountered 3 dogs I know on the beach, I’d never seen them alone that far away from their homes.
🧚♀️
They took interest in the new dog, but settled, and began following along through the mountains from the beach.
🧚♀️
As we came closer to the main paths, they began hassling the other dog, I controlled it at first.
🧚♀️
Snap!they turned, and aggressively went for the other dog, I fell, but managed to scoop the dog into my arms. The 3 dogs began jumping up on me and biting for the dog in my arms.
🧚♀️
I kicked and shouted, a car came, thankfully they heard me and I managed to get all my three dogs into their car.
🧚♀️
I was in shock. Those people were my saviours, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
🧚♀️
The little dog got away unscathed, only a teeny scratch. Me with just a few scrapes and bruises.🙏
🧚♀️
This place has been a sanctuary for afternoon walks. I did not want to allow that experience to ruin the peace and enjoyment of the mountains and beach I relish here.
🧚♀️
The next night we encountered the dogs alone again. I changed my behaviour and made a clear stance with them not to follow me. They paid heed and we went on our way, and enjoyed our sunset together without any worries.
🧚♀️
I learned my lesson, and took action. I will not take new dogs into that territory again. I will not allow fear put a stop to enjoying this beautiful place.
🧚♀️
This is what we need to do with anything in our lives that rattles us, we should not allow one bad experience take away from all that was before and that is too come.
🧚♀️
We can adjust, adapt, learn and go forward stronger.
🧚♀️
We are resilient! Let tough situations bolster our strength so we can go forward with solid footing and confidence in our capabilities.
