Gluten Free Empanadas at La Sorpresa!

We went back to in Central Falls, RI to try out the most epic gluten free empanadas. Confirmed safe and made in a dedicated fryer! Need I say more? Shoutout to for putting me on to this insane find.

They have three flavors:

It’s not easy for everyone to advocate for themselves when first finding out they have to be gluten free or avoid certain food allergens. Things like ordering at a restaurant or explaining Celiac Disease to friends and family can be extremely stressful and anxiety inducing.

This great comment made me reflect on some of my experiences over the last 10+ years being gluten free. Here’s a few things that have worked for me.

I found gluten free pupusas for under $2 USD at Pupusas Bistro Guatemala City!

The most amazing and cheap pupusas in Guatemala City. These are naturally gluten free made from corn masa and there are no other items on the blackstone grill so it’s fully safe! I got 4 pupusas for around $7 and they included:

- Chicken and Cheese
- Beans and Cheese
- Chicarron and Cheese
- Chicarron with Beans and Cheese

All were epic and they came with some delicious salsa and curtido coleslaw on the side. 10/10

The best gluten free restaurant chain in the world? It might just be Atleast I think so! 😎

We visited their Braintree location during Celiac Awareness Month and got to try an incredible lineup of gluten free food. Huge thanks to the Tavern team for having us out!

One of the things that makes Tavern in the Square stand out is their dedicated gluten free and dairy free fryer, meaning no gluten cross-contact from fried foods. Keep in mind they do still have regular items so always specify your allergy/disease when ordering! But pretty much everything can be made GF and their safety precautions are top of the line!

They also have 20+ locations across New England, so it’s not hard to find a location near you.

Here’s what we ordered:

- Bang Bang Chicken Tenders
- Maple Gochujang Chicken Tenders
- Fried Pickle Chips
- Ahi Tuna Bowl
- Korean Crispy Chicken Sandwich
- Blackened Bacon + Blue Burger
- Bayou Chicken Pasta
- Fish + Chips

Cocktails:

- Tavern House Sangria
- Guava Drama
- Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso Martini

Dessert:

- GF Cookie Dessert with Caramel Dip

This is from Evviva Trattoria. They have separate ovens so you know their gluten free pizza is truly CELIAC SAFE! Have you tried it yet?
