A Journey of Hope. A Legacy of Care.
The Malaysian Association of Paediatric Surgery (MAPS) extends its heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the SAB Child Health Symposium 2026 and SEPEDA Amal Borneo 2026.
The story of paediatric surgery in Malaysia began more than five decades ago, when a handful of visionary surgeons laid the foundation for a specialty dedicated to the unique surgical needs of infants and children. From humble beginnings in the general wards of Hospital Kuala Lumpur, the specialty has grown through perseverance, innovation and an unwavering commitment to every child entrusted to our care. Today, that same spirit continues to unite paediatric surgeons across the country.
The SAB Child Health Symposium 2026 reflected this shared commitment to advancing children's healthcare through education, collaboration and multidisciplinary partnership. We are proud that MAPS members contributed to the scientific programme by sharing their expertise and experience:
• Prof. Dr. Shireen Anne Nah (President, MAPS 2026–2028) – Overview of Disease Burden in Paediatric Surgery
• Mr. John Emmanuel – Foreign Body Ingestion in Children
• Mr. Koay Yeang Wee – Common Urological Diseases in Children
• Dr. Muniswaran Nadesin – Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) in Paediatric Surgery
• Ms. Abhirrami Lechmiannandan – Common Penoscrotal Disorders in Children.
Beyond the lecture hall, another inspiring journey was unfolding across Borneo.
We are especially proud of Dr. Muhammad Che Yaacob, MAPS Committee Member, who successfully completed the 680 km SEPEDA Amal Borneo 2026 charity ride. Together with fellow cyclists, he rode not for personal achievement, but to raise hope and support for children requiring life-saving paediatric surgical care and those living with Primary Immunodeficiencies (PID).
Our sincere appreciation also goes to our paediatric surgical colleagues in Sabah and Sarawak, whose dedication, hospitality and leadership were instrumental in making these events a remarkable success.
To the organising committee, speakers, participants, sponsors, volunteers, donors and every individual working tirelessly behind the scenes—thank you. Your generosity and commitment have demonstrated what can be achieved when healthcare professionals come together with a common purpose.
For MAPS, these events represent more than successful programmes. They mark an important milestone in our journey as a professional society. Since its establishment, MAPS has remained committed to advancing paediatric surgical care through education, research, training and collaboration. Today, we continue that mission by strengthening our national presence, fostering partnerships across Malaysia and inspiring the next generation of paediatric surgeons.
Together, we honour our past, celebrate the present, and continue building a brighter future—for every child.
